Closed roads and obtained all necessary permits as well as blocking the roadway and all intersecting roadways I assume?

Why would dealer void the warranty for doing 140? If the car has a governor on it at 155 (i beleive), then 140 is acceptable, right? If they didn't want the car to go 140, then they would have put the speed governor at 140 or less. They should replace his engine under warranty. The only way I can see them not replacing it under warranty is that if he was red-lining while driving it 140, this might void his warranty, but not just going 140 alone.

Believe it or not, I'm sure not every bullet that leaves the factory is perfect and it is possible to blow a motor right out of the box without abusing it.

I agree, but he shouldn't have been running 140 with 79 miles on it.

Hmm, probably threw a rod then. Maybe a bad oil pump or pickup?

Are you kidding me?? Spend 30K and first night decides to see if he can tear it up?
There is a break in period just like anything else.

I wouldn't have done what your friend did, but the motor shouldn't have broken even if he took it to 140. Glad GM covered it though. Let's see if he tries it again....

Is there any actual physical proof that running in the motor is necessary for reliability? I know that it loosens up over time and such, but I have always learned to break in motors hard!

Look at Ferrari, their motors have very little tolerances in them and the second they roll off the line they are driven to the test track and lapped hard for 6 laps. Same goes for Porsche, Lambo, Lotus and various other sports cars. I know these cars are quite a bit more expensive, but a motor is still a motor?

I had mine on our dyno with 34 miles on the clock for 5 pulls, another 10 or so the next day for tuning. 3 full track days with still under 1000 miles, 3 standing mile events (165mph+ repeatedly), several top speed runs at about 177-182mph (closed course)over 100 1/4 mile passes and drive it every day to work.

@ 7k now with still no issues. Oh and did I mention I have about 500whp N/A
