V6 Camaro and SS Cobalt will NOT get its ass bust by Genesis coupe/ Challenger might

Hyundai released its own performance numbers for the hotly anticipated RWD coupe, and it also included information for the turbocharged 2.0L base model. While CAR achieved a fairly respectable 0-60 time of 5.9 seconds for the V6 model, Hyundai is claiming a sprint to 62 takes 6.3 seconds.

In the Korean home market, the force-fed 2.0L base model will achieve 223 hp and 220 lb-ft with premium fuel, and 210 hp with regular. U.S. customers will reportedly only receive the 210-hp version, and you'll hit that magic number at 6,000 RPM while the turbocharged nature of the 2.0L helps you hit peak torque at a low 2,000 RPM. Hyundai claims the base Coupe's 0-62 time is a rather leisurely 8.3 seconds, but we're guessing that plenty of enthusiasts will get their hands underhood in an effort to greatly boost those numbers.

Korean market pricing starts at 23,200,000 Korean won for the base model and 33,920,000 won for the top of the line V6 model. That's $18,728 and $27,382 in U.S. currency, but Hyundai won't announce official U.S. pricing until closer to the Genesis Coupe's spring 2009 debut.

UPDATE: A source inside Hyundai has told Autoblog to expect a 0-60 time of around 7.5 seconds for the 2.0-liter turbocharged Genesis Coupe. The combination of less weight (under 3,500 pounds) and a retuned engine (Hyundai is still months away from launching the Coupe in the U.S.) will bring performance up to par, compared to its Korean counterpart.
this is going to be a good one

If the price point is $27k+ then the camaro V6 will win in the cost department. That just seems a bit pricey for them to enter this market. Their cars bost equal quality and performance for less $. That is what their branding market is. If they entered the V6 at 27k no one will buy it over many of the other vehichles that can go 5.9 0-60 for that price.

Camaro
Accord Coupe
Base 350Z (I think it is like 29k)
Legacy GT
WRX
Altima 3.5
Altima Coupe 3.5
etc etc

You have to be Kidding....

It can't even match the Cobalt SS in performance.. 260HP, 0-60 in 5.7 seconds, .9G skidpad rating and all for 22K..(All this from the Speed website) both the Genisis V6 and turbo are a joke...

Similar performance to the LS/LT Camaro, at a price similar to the 2LT (somewhat more than the base LS). What about fuel economy, features, and interior quality?

so i heard the rear end doesnt look like a g37 with hyundi badging? the interior looks pretty decent just not a fan of all the little button and big knobs. the gauges are nice.
camaro interior>genesis interior.
"i can feel it coming in the air tonight... all long. and iv been waiting for this moment for all my life alll long"--sorry i had to add that when i see genesis i though of phil collins.

Performance alone? no. Performance + something else? sure!
The way I look at it, there are 3 categorys when it comes to comparing cars by the numbers:
What it has
What it does
How much does it cost

So comparing cars based on what it does (0-60) then saying the better one is the one that is less expensive is fine. It makes a lot more sense than comparing cars based on horse power (V6 Camaro vs Mustang GT)

To echo the sentiments above, re; comparing 1/4 mi. times, other than bragging rights/bench racing, most people are also concerned with handling, driveability, ease of use, etc., not just 1/4 mi. times.

Sure, looking at 1/4 mi. times is something we all do, but as the saying goes, "There will always be someone faster than you."

So, while 1/4 mi. times are important, it's not the defining factor in what makes a great sports/muscle car.

Don't forget resale value, not that domsetics are the king of that. Co-worker had a Hyundai. In his words don't buy one unless you want to keep it forever. Never could sell the thing, ended up donating it for a small tax right off. Probably improved in that aspect, but still something to consider.

I agree 100%
The V6 Camaro will be mildly quicker (at LEAST as quick) than its top-of-the-line model. I'd bet it'll handle better, too. For alot less $$$.
