HJS Cats - extremely expensive - but those should do
http://www.hjsna.com/products/HJS-Hi...9095-0050.html

I've found cheaper cats here in Germany around 250$ each, 100cpi metal cats similar to the HJS. There usually used for the big Porsche and Audi Biturbos....

I'll give it a try...

We've discussed...stock cats may or may not flow less than certain aftermarkets....but there is a reason they cost so much.

Stock cats are made of ceramic which is less likely to "melt down", although it is still possible. If you were to put a full exhaust system onto a zl1 with high flow cats, they would be able to last. Its when you get up into the higher boost and horsepower ranges where the cats start to fail.

Exactly, and that's why I am forced to use stock CATS currently. They are definitely made of higher quality components.

Just a FYI, I bought a cheapie bore scope($100) from Oreilly auto parts to check my cats on my supercharged SS. I took all the o2 sensors out and view the inside easily. Worked good. I don't have to diassemble the exhaust to check them.

Is there a reason that nobody (?) here uses metal cats rather than the stock/aftermarket ceramic versions? Those 100cpi converters are "proven" to hold up to 400+hp each. Even the 200cpi metal versions seem to be superior to aftermarket cats...

Have you used them yet? I tried the variant ones. They are rated 500-850. They didn't last 2500 miles and cost me over $800 to figure that out.

That still pisses me off for you. Did they have any warranty at all, and what did the company say (if you contacted them)?

I've seen your post - and I hate the idea that even those have failed
Which ones did you get - these?
http://vibrantperformance.com/catalo...1022_1063_1111

I'm still going for 100 cell metal cores, not the vibrant though!

My kooks we're holding up just fine and I'll have'em checked soon, but still I think these new cats can't be worse.. The do work for other big cube / boosted cars here in Germany running far more horses than I do...

Fingers crossed they won't let me down...

The ones I used i think were the 7830 high flow. There is a link in this thread somewhere.

The 7830 are 300cpi cats right?

At least it is stated here:
http://thmotorsports.com/vibrant/vib.../i-530501.aspx

Still sucks though that they failed...

if those are in fact 300 cpi, that would more than likely be why they failed. 300 is really not meant for boost despite what most companies claim, theres just not enough flow. the ideal situation would be to have a 100 cpi cat made of thicker material, thicker brazing alloy and a heavier precious metal coat on them. I wish I could go into detail on ours but unfortunately I cant.

pretty much all aftermarket cores are made of stainless steel foil unless they are designed to be factory replacements.
