Question Already Rusting? WTF?

I was looking at the engine the other day and I realized the stock manifolds are already rusting. WTF? Is this normal?

Damn! Time to sell it before the whole car falls apart.

Seriously - they are made out of cast iron. Rust is normal.

My dad bought a Mercury Sable new a few years ago, and the cylinder heads looked like that on the dealer lot already. I guess that's just what happens to unpainted metal.

idk man, this should not be happening this soon, take it to the dealer. Not sure what they would do in this case but make them do something

He's kidding. Bare cast iron will rust the first time it gets any condensation on it. I live in Reno, where it is DRY!! My manifolds were rusted after my first car wash. No big deal at all.

This is normal for any cast iron exhaust manifold.

A nice pair of Stainless Steel American Racing Headers would take of that issue...

If you don't plan to swap over to LT's, you can always pull the manifolds off, clean off the rust, and use Eastwoods cast iron colored paint. I have done this on a few different cars and they look great as well as last a long time. Follow their directions to a T and you will be fine.

Pretty soon you'll walk out in the garage and there will be a pile of iron oxide dust on the floor!
