Unusable Back Seats

I never did understand why in the world that car manufacturers spend all that time and money to make a car with back seats that nobody over the age of 10 can sit in for more than 5 minutes! A baby chair can't even fit into some back seats, ala Porsche 911. I've heard people say that it's for insurance purposes, but come on! Surely, the people that bring us the most exciting cars in the world can figure out how to make a back seat that an adult can actually sit in!

I sat in a buddy's audi S5 the other day. Just for kicks I got in the back to see what it was like. My old Honda Fit had twice as much room! Why can Honda make an economy car with a back seat for adults and Audi can't?

Unfortunately, our beloved Camaro falls into this category as well. I just can't get comfortable back there. That's for sure! I guess you can shove someone back there in a pinch? Torture for your inlaws maybe?

Well, i have to dauters and i can fit 2 car seats perfectly, and ive also been to vegas 2 times, and my friends havent complain of the 5 hour drive, its not the back of a limo for sure, but i think its decent, and any sportscar that i know of has small back seats.

Its common to nearly all coupes. But, if you buy a coupe you don't really expect to have too many passengers in the back seat anyway (thats what sedans are for). I'm usually the only one in my car and I rarely have more than 1 passenger. In fact, I don't think I've ever had 4 people in my car. The back seat is just easy access storage space to me.

In that case, why not discount the car and put in a storage shelf instead? Wouldn't that make more sense? I think IF you have back seats, they should be usable or why have them at all? Maybe it's just a pet peave of mine?

Since the 2nd gen the back seat has been made to discourage more then 2 from sitting in the back and crammed you in there so it wasn’t fun.

But still everyone wants to pile in.

The 3rd gen was the frist year for the full recline back front seats that made gettin some in the car easier [also the fold down back seat]

I said I rarely have more than 1 passenger, not never.

I disagree with you completely. The back seats are for "emergency" and for short trips. Social people like to share the experience of a fast car with a group of buddies. Having a storage bench at the back is useless to me. The slight improvement in storage over back seats is minimal but the loss of 2 seats is huge. Furthermore, you shouldn't be storing stuff in a performance car anyway. I'd rather share the experience of a performance car with 2 extra buddies, than have extra storage space.

My sports car is not a passenger car, it's a pleasure vehicle, and I'd like the option of sharing that pleasure with a greater number of people. Furthermore since I have a young family, leg space isn't a big issue. When they're old enough such that leg space becomes an issue, it is less likely that they would be accompanying us on long road trips (or they would have their own car).

Historically speaking, believe the reason for still having a back seat had something to do with the way races were regulated back in the day? Someone with more knowledge than myself, feel free to add to this....

Next time you have three regular sized adults in the back seat of your Camaro, please take a picture and post it here... this I gotta see!

I won't even claim my Challenger can seat three regular sized adults in the back seat, but two regular sized adults are fine... But long torso 6'3'' guys like me... not so good in the back, but more than enough room in the front.

same here...

most of the people crying over the back seats being "unuseable" are the same people who have never tried using them.
