5th or 6th gen?
Hey all. Been a long time since i've been on the forums. I had a 2010 2SS transformers that i sold 4 years ago.
I want to purchase another camaro so the question is what are benefits or drawbacks of 6th gen vs. 5th gen. Here is what I mean. The paint on my 2010 was very "thin" and had to be touched up. It seemed to get nicks easily. I also had to install an oil catch can on it. Then there was the dreaded "fuse pull" if you ever used fuel with too low octane. That being said are there any known issues with the 6th gens? Did they sold these with the later 5th gen? I'm looking for another 2SS or possibly gently used ZL1 thanks in advance

Performance: 6th
Space: 5th Visibility: Draw Paint: probably about the same. The common 2 issues seem to be automatic trans shudder and rear diff groan. Everything else is kind of scattered. Catch can probably a bit more beneficial than on the LS engine due to the LT1 being direct injected. GM did build a separator into the PCV system but you could still put one on. Your call. Debated a 5th gen ZL1 or a 6th gen SS myself, ended up in the SS. Very happy with it.

We traded a 5th Gen 2SS (6-speed auto) in for our current 6th Gen 2SS (8-speed auto).
The 6th Gen is much nicer than the 5th Gen was. I would not go back.

How is the 6th gen much nicer? And why is it so hard to find a 2SS? Do they still divide them that way?

Nicer: Heated Steering Wheel (2SS) Car Play/Android Auto Ventilated Seats (2SS) Visibility out the front a little better (lower Dash height) Color DIC with much more adjustability Color HUD (2SS) Dual Zone Climate (2SS) Car feels much more nimble Drive Modes (Snow,Tour,Sport,Track) More Power (455hp/455tq) Rev Match (manual trans) Interior Lighting I can't think of anything that the 5th gen had that I wish was on the 6th gen. I would never trade for a 5th, even a ZL1. |

6th Gen all the way. 5th Gen looks good but is a very heavy car. The 6th Gen is lighter and I wish it was even lighter and had a turbo V6 option. I'd get the SS not the V6 due to the weight of the car. Fuel mileage is about the same if not better with the V8 and you get a lot more power and better re-sale.

Having owned a 5th gen from October 2009 until April 2017, and owning my 17 since April 2017 no way I would go back to the 5th gen.
The 5th is a great car, but the 6th is everything we wished we had in the 5th and it's even better.

I had a 2010 1LT and same situation. Got rid of it with new house and all and missed it very much. Just bought almost the exact same car but 2018 and I have to say this car is much better. A lot of little things but things that were issues to me and seem to be corrected. I Love this car more.

6th gen SS much faster, but reliability stories are keeping me from trading in my 2010 2SS.

looks like the 6th is the way to go. what are these reliability stories? I remember some on the 5th gen too but they were mostly from V6 owners.

there is no comparison between the alpha platform and the zeta platform.
as far as horror stories go, keep in mind that anything you read on forums is extremely skewed when it comes to trying to get a handle on how common something is. Nobody posting on a forum these days are common and anything negative is far more likely to be posted about than anything positive. |
