Question Best winter tires?

I have a 2012 2LS V6 Camaro that I just got. I was driving on the highway in a very small snow storm only going 30-35 mph. I literally almost wrecked my Camaro 4 times in 30 minutes. I was swerving in and out of lanes. I just bought two 70 pound sand bags to put in my trunk. I'm going to buy winter tires, but I want to know the absolute best winter tires that will fit my 18 inch tires. Thanks for the help guys. It took me forever to figure out how to post on this website. I'm brand new to the Camaro and to the website!

Any snow tires will make a major difference. I run Blizzaks but I would contact Rudy from tire rack for the best answer. Check the sticky threads in this section for Rudy and shoot him a PM.

I have no reason to drive in the snow but for winter driving I put on the Conti DWs I think they've upgraded that tire.

Bridgestone Blizzacks have Been really good so far . Although honestly the BF Goodrich TA radials were fine last winter .

I think I'm going to go with the Blizzaks. I have been told that I don't need to purchase 4 tires since they are only for the winter. I currently have Pirelli Zero and was going to leave those on the front and Blizzaks in the back just for winter. Would that harm my tires at all? I was told by a service shop that it wont wear out the tread any faster, it just may make it harder steer unless you have good tires on the front.

Don't cheap on winter tires, definitely get all 4.

Understeer and lack of stopping are serious problems if you don't have them on the front.

Also, the Pirellis will crack when they get too cold. Dont' have them on your car under 40F

The previous owner put 20 inch rims on the back and they don't make blizzarks front my front size tires. I guess I will just get a different winter tire for the front. Thanks guys!

I used my stock wheels for winter and they are 20x8 and 20x9. I have 245s on front and back.

^^I second this^^

The Bridgestone Blizzak DM V1 has to be the most aggressive snow tire for this Camaro, short of a studded snow tire. It is a truck tire and has really deep tread, which helps expel deep snow. When I had the pzeros onmy SS I would get stuck in a flat parking lot that had been plowed, but had packed snow. With the DM V1 I was able to come to a complete stop on a steep grad with 2 inches of snow, and get started again without slipping at all. I even passed a jeep that was struggling on the steep mountain pass. Must have blown his mind. The grip getting started up a hill is almost as good as my 4x4 tahoe was with its all season tires. And the cornering and braking are far superior.
However, the tire is not without its compromises. The handling and cornering is very vague in dry conditions when compared to a summer tire. And my Camaro isn’t as fun to drive when its dry out. The tire also has a speed rating of ~100mph, so I can’t go fast. And the snow tires don’t last very long. After about 15k miles you will wear through the top half/winter compound of the tire, and the performance in snow will be reduced.

Always best to have 2 sets of rims, and 2 sets of tires.

Winter tires are dedicated to winter, and work great.

Summer tires are dedicated to summer, and work great.

All-seasons, just suck all year round.

If you can't fit blizzaks on your 20s, then get a second pair of 18" steelies that you don't care about and wrap those in your winter tires. Then you can swap between, and get better life out of tires, and not have to keep paying for a rebalance and remount each season.
