Need help identifying Vintage hat
I have acquired this hat among many other relics from a deceased family member's attic. It has no tags and appears to be quite old. Google hasn't produced many results so I was wondering if any of you might have any information!

I asked my Dad (who is a very knowledgeable military collector) and sent him a link to your pictures here. This was his response....
"Ah,Well,Ah, British insignia would have a Crown, weither Kings or Queens, cant tell by the shape of the actual crown (could be an innie for one and an outie for the other). But my GUESS is Air Force. The 2 gold bands would be a Leutenant in the French Air Force. But the Fleur de Lis? throws me too???? The French changed sides a few times so who knows. Dates from the 30’s to 40’s. Would like to see a good shot of the insignia." Sorry, not a definitive answer for you, but if you could post some better pictures of the insignia on the front.....and any other markings, maybe I can get you a better answer.... |

I don't know, maybe he's talking about whatever that symbol is right below the crown. Kind of hard to see what that is. As mentioned, a better (close-up) picture of that entire insignia would be very helpful.

When I saw a fluer de lis & crown at the same time, I immediately thought of Quebec. A little searching brought me to this:
Le Regiment_de_Maisonneuve Looks pretty close to me, but I'm no expert & I've only got a couple pics to go off of. If nothing else, you could contact them (they're still a part of the Canadian Forces reserve) and show them the pics.

Thanks for the responses! I knew we had clever people on here. Here's a better picture of the emblem. It makes me think this may be unique.

Are you sure it is a military hat?
Kinda looks like an old Postman's hat, or maybe police?

My $.02....It doesn't look military to me...my guess, with the ropey type stitching is that it's maritime, or merchant marine....
