What's the deal with these suitcase mufflers?
Why do you think chevy designed these Camaros with the suitcase looking muffler? - the video of the yellow SS drive by sounds really good - love it, however the uni-muffler looks funny
how do you change out something like that - seems like it would be a weight issue - you think were going to see a borla suitcase attaxx? |

From what I gathered,it could just be an air foil for the actual muffler...might be removable but won't know until someone gets their hands on one

New Mustang has the same thing. Could be something to do with new regulations (noise). At least Chev is using it for aero I read on another thread. I know the Mustang guys we're talking about ditching it for weight savings and less restriction.

I think it was designed like that to smooth airflow travelling under the car, reduce turbulence. It looks ugly but it's functional, a simple axle back system will fix this if you don't like the look

people said the 5th gen mufflers were designed with airflow in mind. But then why is it that the Dual Mode mufflers aren't shaped the same way? obviously GM didn't see it as an issue.

I remember the 2nd Gen muffler was a similar design, at least on my 74 Z/28. I believe it was tucked up in-between the gas tank and rear axle. When replacing with duel exhaust you had to place the two mufflers further up the chassis to get them to work. It will be interesting to see what the aftermarket is going to do with this.

With SEMA coming and aftermarket partners getting hands on, I am sure the MagnaFlow's, Borla's etc. of the world will be all over this car.

Yepers, remember having to watch out for speed bumps everywhere... The Hooker Supercomp headers I installed were even worse...
