Looking to purchase a Camaro

Hey, guys! My name is Kurt. I will be turning 16 in a few short months and am looking to buy a used Camaro. I just love these cars. I can't decide between the 2SS and the 2LT. This is mainly because of insurance costs. Does anyone know what insurance may cost? Also, any suggestions? I believe they give a discount for good grades and I have a 4.0. Maybe that would help? I just am in love with the Camaro.

Insurance for a 16 y/o is going to be insane. I'm guessing close to 5K a year for full coverage for a V6, $7,500 for an SS. And yea, no grade discounts.

Hello EastFootball28,

Congratulations to you on performing so well in school. That is definitely something to commend. Unfortunately, we do not offer any discounts for that accomplishment. I think you are referring to insurance companies who may have discounts for coverage's. We wish continued success to you.

I was in your shoes 4 years ago when I tuned 16, and I was thinking the same thing your thinking. Trust me the insurance isn't worth it right now. Get something you can learn to drive in and not worry about getting a few dings and things in, then in a few years after you can prove your driving prowess to the insurance companies and your parents probably then you can look into the V6. V8 is going to be out of the question really until at least 21-25 or so if your worried about insurance cost. I finally bought a camaro a few weeks ago and its a 2010 v6 and I got a fairly good deal on insurance but only because I have been driving now for just under four years with no accidents or tickets. So if I were you I would get something to learn to drive in, something your can get comfortable with then in a few years turn back to the camaros. Trust me they will still be just as cool and just as fun to drive and good for you they will be even more widely available on the used car market and insurance will be even less.

Some insurance companies will allow your parents to have it on their policy and add you as an "incidental" driver, meaning it's not your daily driver, but you are covered should you drive it.

State Farm does that and it can save you a nice chunk of change. Otherwise, like everyone said, your insurance is going to be sky-high! Especially at age 16.

Welcome to the forum! Good luck with the car search!

If you think you are ready for a Camaro by all means go for it. You will stick out at school.. kids will be jealous and i'm sure someone will violate your camaro somehow!

For insurance it all depends on your driving record but you don't have one so your looking at paying a lot for insurance depending on if you buy the car outright or if you take out a loan your going to want full coverage. I know when i was in school I got a discount on my insurance for having good grades but that went away right after I got my first speeding ticket.

Like someone said before me, buy a beater car... save your money you have now and get the Camaro down the road when you are more responsible. Maybe in a couple years there will be another car you want more then the camaro.

Good luck.
