Need some insight from fellow car guys
A buddy and I are starting a little side business making things out of old car parts we find at our local junkyard. We have a few things made up and are having a hard time figuring out a price point. Below are a few pictures of a crankshaft table and an inline 6 camshaft stool.
Any insight would be much appreciated! P.S. I apologize for not being able to get the pictures rotated correctly. |

Test it out and see if there's a market for it. You never know unless you try.

Did you get this idea off of Magic Mike?
Just kidding. Love the idea. Price them accordingly to how many hours it took you, add in the cost of the products you used in production (glue, nails, whatever). Pretty much find an hourly rate you would work for and sell for that price of hours you worked on it. Reasonable price may be $35 an hour. Maybe more since you have a buddy working with you.

take them to a automotive swap meet...ANY car swap meet and see what happens. hit 'em high at first and be willing to negotiate. That venue IS your market, doesn't matter if it is a tri-5 , vette, or concours d'elegance. Those will be your buyers.
Take a few if you have them, set them up, hang a price that would make your mother proud. Be proud of your work and nice to your customers...but be willing to negotiate and you will get a price point that is practically laid into your lap.

Look at similar products, then asses what price you should be at. my suggestion would be to start at a lower price so that you could build a customer base. Your target market is obviously gear heads, now the problem is being able to get them the product. if your serious about making this a company i would look into advertisements for magazines, car forums and so on. Also, go and talk to local shops, they may be interested in putting stuff like that in their waiting rooms, show rooms ect. You have to start somewhere, then you can reposition your product in a way the would maximize your profits.

I love this idea...very cool! As far as price point I would say just test them out at a local flea market or car show and see what type of feedback you get.

So funny story...we tried putting these out at a car show that I had my car in and everyone thought the for sale on the tables was for my car. Completely defeated the purpose of why we brought the tables...but we did get some good feedback.

Thanks for all the advice everyone! I am toying around with some more ideas. We have made a few clocks out of flywheels and hubcaps. Which I think came out amazing! Have a thought about making a clock out of a hood too but that might take a little more effort and specific buyer who wants a clock that big on their wall.
