Excess exhaust fumes
I recently had a little work done... Cam, long tube headers, intake manifold, cai, and a custom tune. I also had my cats removed and replaced with off rode pipes. Now I'm experiencing, what I believe, is a excessive amount of exhaust fumes. My mechanic said it is due to the cats removal and is normal. Has anyone here experienced this? And would hi-flow cats solve this issue? Thanks!

As has been said , no cat will do that . FYI , HF cats will only cost a couple of HP and will knock down the sound about 10% as well.

The smell reminds me of the 60's and early 70's . Kinda nostalgic , and some folks like it .

Yeah cats would knock the smell down.
Mine is almost too much for me in the heat of the summer.

Mine does it too... Notice it quite a bit when I'm stopped going uphill...

Cats would definitely make a difference in controlling the exhaust fumes. Generally speaking, high-flow cats produce the same or similar power as a test pipe on modern engines. Grassroots Motorsports Magazine tested this a few years ago and found that MagnaFlow cats produced the same gains as a cat delete on a Miata engine. While the Miata oviously has a drastically different engine from the LS3, we design the cats to produce that same level of exhaust flow in all applications.
If all the parts on your car were new, as well, you might have some of the greases and so forth from production might burn off in the first hundred miles or so. That can produce a bit of smoke and smell, though I don't think that's what you're describing. |

Yea I think it smells good although I haven't smelled it without high flow cats but when I put headers and highflow cats on it increased the smell when stock there was none. Also I noticed that I could smell it more with my muffler delete than when I had mufflers on.
