Advice on Supercharging a L99 SS
All,
I currently have a 2012 45th anniversary edition SS. I am considering a supercharger as it adds the biggest bang for buck. The only power plant mod thus far is a K&N 63 series cai. I'd like knowledgeable advice on brand, size, installers in NC, and warranty after the fact. I don't want to risk not being covered by warranty. Not looking for a "race car", but would like a stealth pony-eater. It's a daily driver for me. I have a fair amount of mechanical aptitude, but what I lack is a place to do major work or lift. I would love to find a shop that wants to advertise via my car, but that is probably unlikely. I've been reading the threads but got lost on a few, specifically the ones telling me that installers play with your car while they have it. Makes me think twice about letting someone else work on it, but I want it done right. The thread about torq and whipped sc's was a real eye opener. That being said hit a brother up with info and advice. Kevin |

If you want to retain your factory warranty, a supercharger likely isn't for you.

Warrantys are for Hondas and Toyotas. By adding a s/c you'll be a candidate for breaking stuff and that stuff will need upgrading and a warranty part is weak! That's just me though if a warranty is that important then stay stock my friend because you will not get a warranty if you s/c.
Now if you do then I'd go kenne belle or whipple, to me they make better TQ down low to get these pigs moving. Just my .2

You can get a warranty with a s/c, it's called a ZL1
In all seriousness, Magnacharger, Whipple, and SLP all offer warranties that you can buy with the addition of a supercharger. A few people have gone that route and have been happy too. I think they cost somewhere between 500-1000. |

I read from some of the posts you could buy a warranty if you had a pro install the sc? I was leaning towards a whipple. I considered approaching the dealer I bought the car from to see what they could do with OEM hardware and maybe if I went that route they would still warranty it. If I go sc and only play occasionally and with care what risks to I run on breaking things? I don't intend to drag every weekend.....just want something in my back pocket if I need/want it.

2SS45th.....ZL1 was what I wanted, but this was the wife's car. She is preggers now and this ain't the best car for her and my baby. I could trade out, but that would hurt the ol pocket. What have you done to yours and how does it perform. I basically have the same thing you have.

Keep in mind that in order to have any blower manufacturer warranty you must use their tune and retain all the other factory parts. That K & N will void the warranties. On the L 99 expect anywhere between 450-475 rwhp with just the blower.

What? I have to put that box back on? Shouldn't I be trying to let the sc breathe?

Here is the warranty: http://www.magnacharger.com/download...TOMER-FORM.pdf COVERED COMPONENTS BEING TAMPERED WITH OR ALTERED FROM FACTORY SPECIFICATIONS (OEM OR MAGNUSON) INCLUDING, BUT NOT LIMITED TO, THE REMOVAL OF THE SUPERCHARGER DRIVE PULLEY, FOR ANY REASON, AS EVIDENCED BY THE TAMPER PROOF LABEL. If you do not use the Magnacharger tube and OEM box you void the warranty. |
