Engine cover

I've searched and read on this but haven't really got a straight forward answer.... Does removing the engine cover help to get rid of execess under hood heat?

NO. It actually holds heat in. Designed to keep hood cool. People have noticed performance gains when both cover and clamshell removed.

I think I read somewhere that they were both there to reduce engine noise. The first time I pulled through a drive through I took it back to the dealer, thought my valve train was about to come apart. I'd hate to hear it without the covers.

Most tuners will suggest removing both the intake cover and engine cover to let your engine cool faster. These covers seem to be designed to reduce noise. The intake cover has a rubber like insulation under it.

The day I took my engine cover off my engine after driving up to Tampa, a huge rush of hot air came out from under it. That intake cover will definitely act like a blanket.

Here a picture of both my covers after taking them off. Notice the rubber like insulation on the intake cover.

I removed my cover and turtle shell also, but re-locating the heater hoses away from the intake is what makes the intake run cooler IMO.

I've had both my covers off for 2 years without any issues. I don't think its something you need to worry about.

How did you re-route the hoses? I just got in there and looked around and it seems I would have to replace the hoses to get the kinks out. The most obvious route would be next to the brake controller right over the fuel lines. Would the heat be an issue there?

Check out this DIY. TechAFX also sells a kit that is really popular.
