Are Dealers charging more than MSRP for ZL1?

Wondering how much over the MSRP are you paying for your ZL1? I believe Chevy (or any car manufacturer) shouldn't allow dealers to charge more than the MSRP, but wondering if anyone is running into dealers adding on an extra $5k (or any extra at all) to purchase this car? I haven't been to my local dealership to see if they are trying to add to the msrp but I know alot of HOT cars are sometimes hit with dealers trying make more $!

This is my dream car and have been waiting since the 5th gen came out for what I thought would be a Z28, and since it's here I would like to know a little of what to expect when I go through the door! To be honest I'm not a good haggler b/c i've never had many cars but would like to know that i'm not getting ran over by the salesman and dealership! Thanks for any and all help!!

If you don't mind it in the 'open' list your "out the door" cost for the ZL1!!

Most are getting them at sticker price, so mine was about $64k out the door including TTL and no trade. I have the auto trans and polished wheels, so I incurred a GG tax of $2400 in the price.

Yeah, no surprise. There's people laying down upwards of 10K and MORE over sticker. Saw one at my dealership yesterday that had a bidding war on it from two customers. it was already 10K over...my god. Dealer said they're in the business to make money, and if someone wants to pay that - well - it's theirs. My take on it....let it sit. If you have a ton of cash to throw over your shoulder, buy the thing over MSRP. It's funny to watch. It's happened many times in the past. I remember people buying that nasty looking PT Cruiser for well over MSRP when they first came out as well, what the hell were they thinking? Beautiful car, but so is the ZR1 Corvette. One of which (2011 carbon edition) I saw leave the showroom floor just under invoice after sitting for many months. It's all personal preference, and if you just have got to have one immediately, rest assured you will pay out the nose for it.

You did good on that one! Actually real good considering that's "out the door" without any trade equity (sales tax higher). Compared to that one I saw, it was auto as well. MSRP on it was 60,380 - factory sticker laying on the passenger seat. They were at 70K when I was talking to them, and had two buyers.

FYI, it is illegal for a car manufacturer to dictate what price a dealer charges.

From the forums a lot of dealers are working around MSRP with some serious or longtime customers and from looking online, some are just charging over the top because its brand new. So it's hit or miss.

Some will gladly pay it as opposed to look for one. All depends on what money is worth to you.

This will be the first car I have ever paid MSRP for. I have never even paid dealer invoice before ha ha. Which bring me to an interesting thought will 2013's be exempt from friends and family????

It ain't no fun having to admit paying over the MSRP but I will be honest and admit that it did. I paid 5K over MSRP and I feel lucky to have gotten the allocation that I did. My nearest chevy dealer had 4 allocations and sold all of them at 10K over and I was actually considering paying that too if they could have got a 5th allocation. By shear luck my 2nd closest dealer had one allocation only and they wanted 10k at first and then offered it over the course of 2 days negoations down to 7500.00 and we eventually settled on 5K.

A coworker stopped by McHAik Chevrolet and they had a std with suede and stripe and wanted 73k. I laughed so hard I almost fell out of my chair. I told him to make them a offer at msrp.

I agree. Exotic car dealers "Ferrari" that have a very limited number of cars available to them are selling at list all day. GM as a manufacturer should enforce a rule for "special cars" like the ZL1. It would be very different if they announced they were only going to produce 500 cars and stick to that qty. But good old US greed doesn't allow for that. On the other hand if they said up front that they were going to produce 10 to 15 thousand ZL1's that would open up the negotiating power to the public. GM and its dealers doesn't want that either. I believe dealers are making plenty of money on a car when they sell it at list. Especially a $60,000 car from Chevrolet. For them to ask over list is really not right. American GREED!!!

Local Dealership David Maus Chevrolet in Sanford, FL is charging $3k over MSRP Plus the $1200 for paint protection, nitro fill, and window tint. If you drive 15 minutes up the road to Starling Chevy in Deland they are offering a Yellow ZL1 for $60 over INVOICE.
