Z28 or 1LE

interesting comparison between these two cars. Not a huge difference in lap times, with the 1LE being a little better handling and half the price. Both need the seat replaced for track use, since they have limited support and no sub strap hole. Order the 1LE upgrade brakes and you real close even with the weight difference. Hmmmm

Uh no?! However, I do personally perceive the 1LE as a better value. The Z/28 is far above and beyond if you will regularly track it.

HMMM...not sure where your information came from but:

Lap times will be different (1LE will be closer to a ZL1)
1LE is not a better handling car
Agree on the seat
No upgrade brake option on the 1LE
There is little weight difference between the 1LE and Z/28 (3837/3860)

Jim, you track your GT3? I got the 1LE because it alows me to track (pay for safety gear, entrance fees, consumables like gas, tires, brakes, oil etc). In addition, it is an amazing handling, well balanced car that is fun to drive.

I would like the z/28 more than anything but the cost of tracking would make it impossible for me. Now, in your case you could run the hell out of the z/28 for years and still be under purchase price of that GT3? Is the GT3 so good that its worth the huge budget difference? (Not trying to be mean, seriously curious from an owner of a GT3. i like the GT3 a lot but loooooooooove this z/28).

This forum will be receiving more and more Porsche owner traffic, so there will be questions and comments that are not troll, just curious and learning. By upgrade brakes the other poster may have been referring to installing Stoptech, MovIts or some other aftermarket brake kit. This kind of thing is not uncommon for the Porsche guys who as a broad generalization tend to be trackers more often than not.

Best to give these folks the benefit of the doubt and be helpful I'd humbly suggest. 2014 GT3's have been, and will be for many more months, quarantined for engine problems, these poor guys are car-less going into prime tracking season and looking for alternatives.

I would guess, for most of the Camaro5 folks, a Z28 is pretty much out of the realm of financial possibility, whereas 1LEs are far more affordable, occasional track cars with amenities most would want in a daily driver. I just checked and there are several low mileage examples on eBay for under $40k.

Granted, a 1LE would require almost track only mods to stand any chance against a Z28, but still a viable alternative...especially after doing typical mods to the LS3 engine. A 1LE in the capable hands of a dedicated track day owner could and probably have laid some heavy embarrassment on more expensive machinery.

If there were road courses close by, I would be interested in a 1LE...in my opinion they're an awesome value.

I think he's referring to upgrading the seats to Recaro's when ordering the Camaro or looking to purchase one on a lot with Recaro's installed over an aftermarket seat.

I see the 1LE as a driver with "some" track time.
I see the Z/28 as a TRACK car and "some" driving around.

Comes down to if you spend every weekend (or alot of weekends) going to the track(Z/28) or if you do driving around town and to work then once in awhile you try your skills at a track(1LE).

Just my take on it.

The Z/28 is an AWESOME car, would I like one? HECK yea, do I need it and would use it for what it is intended for, NOPE.
Might have to settle(lol) for a 1LE!

I look at the 2 cars this way

Z28 = GT3
1LE = Cayman S

Now if you look at the cars on this list you see the 1LE can post some very good lap time for what the car cost.(#9 on the list) http://fastestlaps.com/tracks/willow...of_willow.html .
