Insuring modifications
Just got off the phone with my car insurance company. I am fully covered, but not for modifications. They will only insure me up to 5k for mods that are cosmetic/audio for 240 more a year. That's only half of what I needed.
Anyone else have this problem or any suggestions?

Talk to them about if you get an extra insurance plan to cover the amount.
Or find a different insurance company. Also something to keep in mind is insurance companies prorate mods based on how long you've had them, one of the reasons why they require invoices or receipts. Right now they may be worth $10k but after 2-3 years the insurance company may prorate them to $4-$5k. In my experience, after 5 years they prorate mods to pennies on the dollar. |

They do not offer a rider? I know sometimes you can purchase added value riders? I have an added value rider on my 67 the LS7 in it was about 12.5K so my insurance agent found me a rider.

I've never heard od a rider and apparently the agent on the phone didn't either. Thanks for the lead. I will call back and ask them.

wow, with State Farm all you have to do is send in a copy of the receipt and picture of the mod and it is covered.
I had a butt load of mods on my 300c, and when it got vandalized they covered everything from the custom paint to the wheels without question.. Same on my motorcycle, when some asshat backed into it.. $800 chrome HK pipes replaced no questions asked.

I would.. I've never had an issue with State Farm covering mods. no additional fees as long as I have a receipt and picture of what was changed. paint wheels radio/audio equipment suspension interior (upholstery work) etc. no clue what or if there are limits to the coverage, but with the 300c it was vandalized, I had a custom paint job and they repainted the enitre car (around $7,000) and replaced the one-off custom fascia and hood I had made.. Total was over $12K and they didn't bat an eye, nor raise my rates.. they even worked with the custom shop I choose to do the work to make sure it was done right and the vehicle returned to it's former state. however I have been with them for 25 years, and have multiple cars and homes insured with them.

Attached Rider - MBI (Mechanical Breakdown Insurance) and I pay an additional 47.86 / 6 mos. for it w/ a 250.00 deductible. But I also see Guaranteed Comprehensive/Collision for 36.00 so I would assume that both of them together are covering the engine and the other customizations.
