First CA Car Duster Experience... BAD
Scratching the HELL out of my paint, used it once and wow did it do some damage. All I did was glide it across the car very lightly
Anyone else? Am I doing something wrong?

I'd say yes you are...I've been using it since I got my car and there's no scratches whatsoever. How much dust did you let accumulate before doing it? I do it every morning almost, so theres almost no dust buildup to begin with. I'd guess that the more dust is on there the more scratching could take place.. I don't know. Sorry I wish I could help but I've really had no problems with mine.

Well, I picked it up with 4 miles yesterday morning, drove maybe 100, stopped and dusted. Drove another 90 by the end of the night. Woke up this morning to dust it, and looked at the finish, a bunch of fine lines and it's not streaks from the parafin. Unless there was just too much dust from those 100 miles? My car is black BTW

Hmm I guess my idea wasn't the problem. I'm sorry man, I can't think of anything really unless maybe there was something already on the duster?? I doubt that, I'm sure you checked it first. Sorry to hear it's not working out for you, I guess youre gonna have to hose it down and dry it off instead.

I have had 3 Black Corvettes, you the same duster on all them with nothing but positive results. Still use it on both my Cyber Gray cars. Maybe something got on to it, shake it out good. They really do work great for light cleaning.

Used mine about 10 times and no problems. Still getting parafin marks, which are a little anoying. Did however notice a small scratch on hood. Seemed to go away with my next wax job.

Black is the worst showing every little issue. Your paint is not ruined but I know it has to be driving you crazy.
Since your car is so brand new it didn't have any wax to protect it. Wash the car and wax it to get it staightened out then the duster should work fine. The key is to give the paint some protection up front. Like CamaroDreams07 said don't let the car accumulate too much dust if that is the case anything but washing will scratch it. Trick to the duster is run it in one direction with the body panels don't work it in circles.

I've used the same CA Car Duster for the last seven years. Never had a problem. Either there was something in the duster or you had some seriously bad dust or dirt on your car.

I've had the same CA Duster for 10+ years and never had a problem. I'm guessing you are seeing residue from the paraffin wax coating they use to help pick up dust. If I remember correctly, mine did that the first few times I used it. Your "scratches" should come off with a simple wash.
And like someone else mentioned, get a good coat of wax on your car after you wash it. That will definitely provide additional protection. |

I was hestitant to buy one of these duster as I was worried about this same exact problem. I'm thinking the trick is to not let it get too dusty (i.e. dust everyday) and if it is too dusty, wash it (perhaps a touchless car wash if you've done your whole waxing thing), dry it and then maintain the dusting. This what y'all do?

There are no swirls thank God because I did run it with the lines of the body. I guess I'll just have to do 3 coats of of Z5 instead of 2 and 1 of Z2.

I have used the CA duster on my current car for the last 3 years. It works great if used right. When I got mine I initially wrapped in a bunch of newspaper to get rid of excess wax and let it sit for about 4 days. The 1st use kinda pissed me off because of some wax residue, but every use after has been fine. I live in west Texas and its desert... dust is EVERYWHERE so I keep it in my trunk. I only use it if I washed my car recently so there isn't much dust built up to get dragged on the paint. I usually get excess dust off the CA by smacking it against my fence a few times before each use.
Once my black beauty arrives I'll get a new one and use it on her.
