v6 auto trans temp

I have a question, what is the normal operating range of the trans? Mine usually sits at the 180 mark, and a couple days I i had to climb the mountain and got stuck behind a big rig going 10 miles up the mountain and my trans temp gauge got almost on the line between 180 and 310, is that normal and ok? Or do I have a problem

How did you check the trans temp on your car? Im not sure the normal for our cars but in general 180 is a good temp for auto. I know 310f is way too hot but might be normal for climbing a mountain for 10 miles! I say put on an extra external cooler and don't worry about it anymore. An external cooler helped out my car a lot (Im stalled out though lol!)
