Hood and Fender alignment?

The driver's side of my hood and front fender don't line up, the fender is a little higher and the hood sits lower. They are flush at the front of the hood, but as you follow the line towards the windshield, the hood sinks in. The passenger side is completely flush all the way. I tried adjusting the rubber stoppers but that didn't fix it. I did have the fender replaced in April but I'm sure i would have noticed this before. Anybody have any ideas? Fender lines line up with the door perfectly and all panels line up, so I don't think I have any frame damage as my friend hinted at. Since fender lines up with door, I believe I have to adjust the hood, is there any way to do this?

Sounds like you need to shimmy up the space between the hood and the support it is mounted to (Drivers side). I had a similar issue when installing a new fiber glass SS9 hood. The rubber bumpers didn't adjust the height, the above area mentioned did. I think the main function of the rubber bumpers is to prevent hood damage during the shutting of it. It would seem like the rubber bumpers towards the front would help adjust the height, but I think that is more so adjusted with the latch assembly that the front of the hood latches in to. And then the rear height adjusted as I mentioned above.

Going to need pictures to get a better visual. I think I know what you mean - but pictures would help a ton. Hood and fender can be adjusted in small increments underneath.

Gut check says it is the fender and you are just now noticing. Do some che4cking of the left and right fenders as they meet the door and windshield area

Getting the hood and fender heights aligned and the gap between the hood and fenders is an adjustment combining the rubber bumpers, hood latch, and fascia height. The fascia height can be adjusted by turning the two Torx-head screws on either side of the hood latch. The bumpers adjust the hood height. The hood latch itself can be loosened and moved side to side to adjust the hood/fender gap.

If the bumpers closest to the windshield are already adjusted all the way up, try adjusting the fascia downward by turning the Torx screws and lowering the rubber bumpers to adjust the front of the hood downward to align with it. Just mess around with it and you'll see how easily it adjusts.

If you had the fender replaced it was likely misaligned from the start. Im thinking the hood is fine..its the fender that is a little high. Is the gap between the hood and fender good ? If so I would take it back to where you had it installed and have them adjust it.....this can be a little tricky.

If the front adjustment is off then use the torx screws in combination with the twistable rubber bump stops. If the back is missalighned side to side adjust fender gap by lossening the top (10mm I beleive) bolts and the one at the top inside the door gap. If height at the back of the hood isnt aligned with the fender but the fender lines match the door. Need to shim the hood under the hinge brackets.

People will discourage you from doing these adjustments but there is only one way to learn.... take your time and be careful and you will be fine. If you screw it up you have to get a body guy to adjust it. Something you were going to do in the first place. At least you learned something giving it a try.

Heres a tip that took me a little time to figure out. Thin body panels can bow and change shape depending on how tight the bolts holding them on. If you notice your panel may look out of shape after you aligned it and then did a final tightning pass, then you may have over tighted. No big deal just go back and back off the bolts and continue the learning curve. If you have patience you can do just as good a job as most body shops.

I am not a body guy, but have dealt with poor alignment issues from cheap body shops on a variety of cars. I also had a similar alignment issue, I went to different body shops all of which wanted tons of money or claimed nothing was wrong meanwhile my hood fell out of alignment and was obviously grinding when opening. Ended up doing the job myself and took about a half hour.

I had similar problem. My hood on the right front sat noticably lower than my fender at the front side A full turn of the rubber bumper nut on thatside fixed my problem in about 15 seconds. Try rotating the rubber bumpers at the sides.

Good idea, but don't count on it. I had to school the maint tech on how to align the hood/fenders/front fascia after having a Heritage Grille installed by the dealer. He took notes in his book for future reference - he'd never had the front end off a Camaro before. The Torx screw adjustment had him baffled.
