German shareholders demand the sale of Chrysler

Berlin Bombshells
German shareholders demand the sale of Chrysler

By AUTOMOTIVE NEWS

AutoWeek | Updated: 04/09/07, 12:52 pm et

Many German shareholders want DaimlerChrysler to sell the Chrysler group, and they didn't hold back during the company's annual meeting last week in Berlin. Here are some of the verbal bombshells.

"For nine years you have been sitting on this scrapheap called Chrysler. Nobody has learned anything. To call this a sale is a euphemism. If you pay for the garbage man to empty the dustbin, does that mean you have sold something to the garbage man?" -- Ekkehard Wenger, author of an unsuccessful motion to change the company name back to Daimler-Benz

"Since this so-called marriage made in heaven, we have seen a drop in the share price by 30 percent. Should there be a divorce, we would be very happy." -- Henning Gebhardt, a Frankfurt fund manager

"The company is split between an American mentality and a German way of thinking. Germans care about quality and technical expertise. Americans only want money. They don't care about the craftsmanship of the product. This is an arrangement that must end." -- Georg Nuemeier, a shareholder from Burgau, Germany

"Chrysler is the worst problem in the group. You are underestimating how poisonous this pill can be for your company." -- Hans-Richard Schmitz, a lawyer representing a German shareholders group

HEY!!
Now that's quite enough there Mr. Haasen-burger-becker-whatever!!!!
I should say that if the Germans were so high on quality, they would have picked a better leader during WWII, yeah! I went there! And you can kiss my
When you hear stories of the windows falling out of Intrepids, your quality story just doesn't hold up Mr. Fratten-dorfer.

How dare you accuse the 'Americans' of being money hungry, when it hasn't been the Americans making the decisions these past 8 or so years...

I say to you sir: Absolutley nothing. I blew off all my steam above-read it again if you will.

Good Find, killer. The nerve of some people - the only thing left to say is: :middlefinger:

Quality my ass...

JD Power an associates consistently rate the quality of German vehicles near the bottom as far as problems per 1000 vehicles.

Albeit the Japanese are at the top, but American companies are above the Germans.

I'm a soldier stationed in Germany, and while there are many things to like about Germany and the Germans, they certainly aren't as good or enlightened as the think they are.

maybe the sale of Chrysler would honestly be the best for both of them. Chrysler needs some kind of change and any change i feel any change at this point would be good. there products are getting bland again i think, like the new avenger who had the great idea of shrinking a charger down some and just throw another name on it???? like come on. and what does chrysler make anymore? the 300 and a stable of outdated cars like the pt cruiser and a minivan. the only car i like that chrysler has(not inlcuding dodge and jeep) is the crossfire and that is more german than it is american. like i said they need a change.

Hey I found this while surfing...German quality my ass!

The Lansing Plant they refer to is one of the General's, and is a relatively new plant for GM, and one of their first to employ a multiple-vehicle assembly line.

"In last year’s J.D. Power and Associates initial quality study, Lansing Grand River was rated the second-best plant in North or South America with 88 problems per 100 vehicles produced, second to GM’s Oshawa, Ontario, No. 1 plant, and fifth in the world. It scored better than any European plant."

For the Full report you can go here:http://detnews.com/2004/specialrepor.../a14-70492.htm

88 problems per 100 vehicles???

Is that 88 of the 100 vehicles made will have a problem? Or, am I reading this wrong?...only 88 problems total in the average of 100 vehicles.

I think he just forgot a zero. JD power usually lists problems per 1000 vehicles.

That doesn't sound good.... If it is the highest rated plant in intitial quality, then what are the others? 98/99 out of 100? There has to be a mistake there, thatis impossible.

That's what I was saying. If the fast food restaurant I went to got my food wrong 88% of the time, I'd never go back.

I was wrong it was per 100 vehicles......

Here is a link to jdpower:
http://www.jdpower.com/press-release...spx?id=2006082

The industry average is 124 problems per 100 vehicles in the initial quality survey. That doesn't sound good to me either

The following are some of the findings by brand from the link:

Chevy has 124 problems per 100 which is the industry average

Chrysler has 120 problems per 100 vehicles
Mercedes Benz has 139 problems per 100 vehicles....go figure

The only German company above the industry average is Porshe which holds the top spot with 91 problems per 100 vehicles.

Anyway take a look at the link.
