Looks like this one is a rock magnet...

As I was driving home today in my new Camaro that I've had for less than a month, a guy going at least 10mph slower than me pulled out to pass in the left lane of the freeway, just as I was coming up on him. Just as he got in front of me, his car kicked up a rock and cracked my windshield. There's a big quarter-sized star right in the middle of the driver's field of vision.

Anyone have a good idea of what an OE piece of glass is going to cost?

Not sure about your state but under Florida law it's covered under your insurance policy with no deductible.

No luck there. There is no glass coverage before the deductible is met on the comp portion of my policy. I'm guessing a new windshield is less than my deductible.

Typically these are $600 plus just for the windshield. Unless your deduct is more than $1k, claim will be your best route.

With HUD and remote start I was quoted 750 installed for our 2012 RS we had but it ended up getting traded in before we got new glass

Safelite quoted $384.

Apparently there is a price difference if you have (a) HUD and (b) Remote Start. I'm guessing there's some special coating for the cars with HUD and some kind of integrated antenna/tinting for the remote start module?

what?

I have never paid for a windshield in my life. I don't know anyone who has. You have an insurance policy that doesn't replace windshields at no cost??

Not every state forces insurance companies to replace them free. Florida is one that does.

My policy in my state does not. Depends on insurance company and state insurance laws.

I called my agent as well. I can take my comp deductible down to $0 for about $30 every 60 months and they'll replace 3 windshields without any grumbling before they flag my policy with a risk flag and raise my deductible and/or rates.

80 miles a day, I think this is worth it. Learned my lesson.

Yup it has a slight tint in order to reflect off the windshield correctly.

I just replaced my glass with OEM and it was $419. No remote start or HUD. Insurance covered it 100% since I had the glass coverage in my policy.
