L99 here, but honestly its because my parents felt safer with me having an Auto. If it was my choice I would have gotten a LS3.

Only problem is that I've been going through some older threads doing some researsh and have noticed quite a few guys posting dyno numbers which IMO seemed kinda low considering these cars are supposed to be 400hp vehicles. Now I know that this is not rwh but some guys had numbers as low as 295rwhp and most were averageing around 320 rwhp as compared to the LS3s numbers which seem to be more realistic compared to their advertised output of 425hp. Is this the norm? Does anyone know what the 2011 automatics are actually dynoing at?

Please guys not trying to start a BS argument about the Mustang versus Camaro crap on here or an LS3>L99 argument cause I tend to agree that purely from a performance oriented perspective yes the LS3 would be the better option, just not for overall comfort/practicality for the day to day grind. But I work hard just like I'm thinking most folks in here do and am willing to spend my hard earned money on a GM product because I do like what they are making and am dedicated to buying American. Just not wanting to buy one(L99) and then later on be dissapointed because it underperformed. I bought my Mustang and am very pleased and would like nothing more than to have the same experience with the L99 SS Camaro. But as I mentined earlier that by reading some of the threads here, I'm leary as to what could result. And yes I've test driven it but that initial exitement will eventually give way to the daily grind and familiarity of the vehicle. By no means sm I sasying that it'll get boring but I plan on keeping these two cars for a long time and as everyone knows the mod bug prevails and a few boltons on the L99 would no doubt find their way on(would love about 400rwhp from basic boltons if possible). Like I said just don't want to regret it 6 months from now and thinking I should have gotten the LS3 or maybe even the Challenger..

The stock L99 performs quite well in quarter mile times compared to the LS3 because it has such an advantage in overall gearing off the line over the stock LS3 - this gearing advantage almost wipes out the horse power advantage the LS3 has.

Advice to OP, go ahead and buy the L99 and then make your modifications to get a few more ponies, you will have a great car and you will love it...

You need to change out that 3.45 differential gear, put in a 4.10 and you will find yourself using those higher gears and loving the change in shift points....

I love my L99. Just dyno'd, bone stock I was putting 340HP/367TQ. After a tune I was pushing 360HP/377TQ at the rear wheels. These cars really wake up quickly.

I have no regrets with the Auto. The AFM is smooth with no mods. I started with the Corsa Exhaust which has no drone, and it is also smooth. Once I put the long tubes with high flow cats the AFM was annoying! A tune is a must to turn it off, if you plan on doing full exhaust. After my tune the car runs smooth, and has loads of power, sideways off the line with TC on. The Auto also gives you 3 drive modes, normal drive, sport, and manual mode. The best option if you don't want the hassles of driving a stick, especially if you have to drive in traffic daily.

I actually gained a little. That's probably because I dialed in the LTFTs at the same time I tuned out the AFM. Even if you just turned off the AFM and did't adjust your tune, I don't think you'd lose any significant fuel economy.

This is just one man's opinion, but I think AFM is a gimmick. It allows GM to get the MPG rating they need to avoid the gas-guzzler tax on the L99, but those tests are run on a giant flat oval, where you don't have to climb hills or accelerate in traffic. People don't drive that way in the real world.

If you're worried about losing fuel economy when you tune out the AFM, you really shouldn't be. It's a non-issue.

Guys very appreciative of some great advice and from the sound of it the AFM is only a tune away and not that big a deal. So Summit White L99 1SS it is.. Will post up pics and let everyone know ASAP. Gonna start shopping around and goinfg through options. Wife only requires it be cloth interior and automatic so she's pretty excited too. Both the Black 5.0 and White SS will look awesome in my stable. Thanks again..

oh, and are paddle shifters an available option or standard equipment? Didn't even realize they were available.

I have been driving 2010s at the dealership for a while and today, a 2011, all A6, and they all are irratating. What I noticed is that with a bone stock exhaust it is very difficult to identify because you have nothing to compare it to. But if you have upgraded the exhaust, to include merely the GM Perf mufflers, you KNOW it's there, even if you sit in a stocker again. 20mph = 4 cyls. You cannot miss it. It also turns your car into a $.25 vibratiing machine until you press the gas. Tune it out!

Brant, you're dead on!
With my stock exhaust I NEVER could hear any droan, vibration, etc.
I now have the new Solo Axle Back J-Pipes and again No droan. I refused to tune out my AFM as the power train warranty could be voided regardless of what anyone here says. Remember it's GM that approves and pays for warranty repairs, not the dealer.
Personally, my Camaro is for long interstate trips. M6- No thanks.
