my 1-2 WOT shift sucks
i had an M6 LS1 before my M6 LS3 and i was very good at driving that. i'm not sure why though but with the hurst short throw i seem to grind a little in between the 1 to 2 shift on WOT. grind might be a heavy term, but it feels like i'm either shifting too fast or my feet are not in sync. i usually hear a light clicking noise that doesn't feel very smooth. i have practiced several times and can get it right maybe 30% of the time with a smooth feel and no click/grind feeling. when i say grind i mean it doesn't feel terrible on my hand like a real grind would, but the noise makes me think i'm not shifting right.
at any rate i know i just need to work on it...can't tell if i'm letting off the clutch in 2nd too fast or pushing the clutch in when in 1st too slow, but whatever it is i know it can't be good for the transmission. my car only has 3,500 miles, but i'm curious what damage am i doing when i hear this grinding noise, and how serious of damage is it causing? thanks. |

How can you have been here for 10 months with over 1,000 posts and not have heard of 2nd gear grind?

I'm sure it looks the same as the stock AC Delco stuff. Although, I wouldn't volunteer that particular information when bringing it to the dealer.

Page 11-2 in the owners manual simply says
"The proper replacement parts, fluids, and lubricants to use are listed in Recommended Fluids and Lubricants on page 11‑7 and Maintenance Replacement Parts on page 11‑9. We recommend the use of genuine parts from your dealer." Recommended, but not required. They would have to try and prove that the oil you are using is inferior to GM's junk ATF and damaged the parts to void your warranty. I've yet to hear of anyone having problems with dealer over fluid use, as long as it meets or exceeds GM specifications. Most Red Line products meet or exceed GM specs.

The Hurst unit is not made very well, the shift lever is connected to the upper stick attachment with two littel hex screws. Problems waiting to happen, Like grinding, wobbel from left to right.

My hurst wobbles from left to right. And I have a slight 1st to 2nd grind. I wouldn't say he's necessarily wrong.
