Intercoolers: Black or Unpainted?
Trying to decide which way I want to go. Can anyone think of any aesthetic advantages for one or the other? Post pics of yours!

Personally, I wouldn't paint it. It's a part that's sole purpose is to get rid of heat. Anything you cover it with will compromise it's ability to do so, to some degree. It may be negligible, but it's just the principle of it. If I HAD to do it, i'd tape off the fins and just paint the endtanks.

There is a coating that can be applied that helps cooling even further that is black

Like H-E said there is a special heat disappaiting coating that can be applied that actually helps. Just covering it in normal black paint does not help.

Mine was black and I had it unpainted . Personal preference as I wanted it to show through the grill.

Mine has the black coating on it that H-E was talking about ^
I wanted it to be silver but IPS took forever with building my kit so they coated all the hot side pipes with that stuff for free. I wish they would've left the intercooler though beacuase even knowing it's there I can barely see it. So I voted silver cause that's how I wish mine was..

Unless you're paint has thermal barrier properties (most do not) then a black paint will transfer heat better. Simple heat transfer characteristics for radiant heat from a black body versus a silver body. (Maybe not so simple, having sat through way too many heat transfer class lectures!) Forced conduction heat transfer is probably not affected by most paints, so why not take advantage of the radiant heat transfer properties of a black body?

I went with silver. Took a buffing wheel to it, and now it shines, which is my preference.
