Nope. I've had everything BUT the intake apart on my car over the last week. I'm flipping my fuel rails next week so I can finish my nitrous project. I can take some pictures that show how to go ahead and remove the manifold.

With at least 3 months to go until I take Sledge out again, I'm considering here replacing the valley cover thingy on my own dime just for the hell of it. I have two questions to ask though, sorry if they are dumb ones, but I have nothing lose but to ask.
How will I be able to tell if the new valley cover won't be defective AGAIN? It wound truly suck to install the new one, and have the same issues as before. Assuming of course that my original valley cover was truly defective of course, but I can't be entirely sure yet on this new not-broken-in engine. This might be the dumb question of the post, but when I install a AGP turbo kit in about a full years time from now, does part of the new turbo kit hardware include a new or different design valley cover as well as part of the kit? |

i'm still out of the country. i hope to make the repair late Jan, if all things work out.
Camaro Dude asks a good question re "How will I be able to tell if the new valley cover won't be defective AGAIN?" After removal i was going to look at the old one and use low pressure air to see if it has leaks where the plastic makes up to the valley cover. hopefully i will find a leak and then look at the new cover and do a test, again, hopefully with the results of "no leak".............this is the ideal situation.

Pretty sure you won't be getting a new valley cover with any turbo kit.

A little late to game, but I put an Elite Catch Can on my car about 120 miles ago. My car has 45k on it. 2010 LS3. I do not by any means drive my car hard. I do get on it occasionally, but not near as much as others on this site. I pulled my catch can down and it was about half full, with a little over 100 miles on it. Does that sound excessive or normal? There was NO hard driving since the catch can was installed as I am also breaking in a brand new differential.

further update
From my build thread:
The new cover came in and I should have done a LOT more research before I pulled the trigger on the new cover. I think I could have repaired the original cover and saved $100. Note how the “ported vent” is bolted to the bottom of the cover. Notice items 908 (bolts) and 909 (ported vent) …………..sure enough it can be resealed.

you have an issue............probably
Quote:
it would appear as though you have a valley cover issue. in my (simple) opinion, you have 2 choices; buy a longer hose and connect to the back of the drivers side valve cover. see if there is a difference and if so............then decide if you will continue to run connected to the valve cover or reseal the ported vent on the bottom of the valley cover. this is the spot i have found myself in. good luck and let us know what you do and the results.

I think it would be tough to know where the seal has failed just by looking.
Thinking out loud here: with the cover off and cleaned, spray some wd40 inside the baffle and see where it comes out at the sealing surface. Really does not matter though, you will need to remove the baffle, clean off the old sealant and reseal again. If you switch to the valve cover, you should plug off the port on the valley cover.

Ok, time to bump this thread.
Took my ride out just a couple short weeks ago, fresh oil in, using Amsoil 5W-30 Signature series as opposed to the Mobil 1 before, performed a few hard runs....odometer now at 4000km(2500miles). I'm getting 2-2.5 tablespoons of oil in the catch can, after approximately 60 miles (or 100km's) of constantly getting on it. I made an appointment with the dealer early next week to bring it in. Hopefully they won't say something like, "your engine is still too new....." Will update what happens at the dealer, but others please do chime in the meantime. |

I swapped out the valley cover while doing some intake work. I then moved the hose from the driver's valve cover and put back on the NEW valley cover. The amount of oil I catch is now the same as when connected to the valve cover. All fixed.
To be truthful, I did not see anything obviously wrong with the baffle when I took it off. All I know it is now 'fixed'.

I put an RX can on my L99 when i bought 2 1/2 yrs ago and never collected that much of oil. I got on her quite a bit and still do occasionally and now with my elite i get about 2-3 teaspn every 1k.
