$68k daily driver worth it?

Ok, so I've been having some roller coaster emotions about spending roughly $68K on a ZL1 only to rack up the miles very quickly. My round trip to and from work is about 80 miles. I've put 30k miles on my truck in 1.5 yrs. I'm starting to worry that I'll spend so much money on a ZL1 only to have it rack up so many boring highway miles. An obvious alternative is just don't drive it every day...well duh! But how do you have this awesome car in your garage and NOT drive it?? I'd really only leave it parked on rainy days. No way I can have a garage queen.

But I mean, if you look at it from a logical standpoint, it's a very expensive DD. I could just keep putting more towards retirement....because I don't want to work forever.

What do you all think?

The only person on the planet that can decide if it's worth the money, is you. You live once, so enjoy it within reason.

If it will break you to own, then I say no. But, if you can afford it within what you consider to be an acceptable window of expenditure, then get it.

You can't really put a price tag on your overall enjoyment of life as there are simply too many variables.

I still enjoy my Camaro SS even driving along a boring traffic filled road.

Only you can really make this decision. Can you really afford a 68K car like this and still continue to save, do you other hobbies, support your family, put money into retirement?

Yes? Then have fun my friend.

yeah I'll keep the truck. It's a 2015 2500HD gas (horrible mpg. don't really care) and I've paid it half way off so far. When I pay it off I'd be able to make a ZL1 payment while still saving roughly half of my take home pay. Just get cold feet when I start thinking logically. I can be pretty frugal, but ALWAYS had toys (camaros, trucks) as hobbies. Won't consider another SS cause...well. ZL1. Only moving up from there! Just wanted some different opinions/perspectives. Thanks for your replies and keep em coming.

Everyone's situation is different. I'm sure my friends will say why do you need another car when you have six already? My answer is because I can.

Answer this question for yourself. Will the car prevent me from addressing a more important issue like childcare, education, healthcare, housing, Pokemon Go?

If not you can probably afford to buy it. I have 6 kids, their names are Chevy,
Pontiac, Chrysler and BMW. I have two sets of twins and they all like Sunoco Ultra.

Buy the car!

It's the same money and gas mileage as a Yukon Denali, never hear the question asked about those!

I am in the same boat, 84 mile round trip to work, so i decided if i do the ZL1 it would be a part time car and keep my 2012 since it is paid off and continue to use it as my DD. Maybe 3 days my 2012 and 2 days the 2017. I have a lot of curvy roads to work which would be fun with the Zl1.

A 68k DD makes more sense than a 68k car that I will drive maybe (MAYBE) once a weekend. But I'll probably still buy one...

People spend $68K or more on cars they drive every day. We are not a good comparison, simply because I have the longer of the commutes (double) and mine is only 11 miles round trip.

When I did have a longer commute, I'd drive my truck (always seem to have one of those, too) about half of the time and the car the other half.

I'll put probably put around 5000 miles on it per year, and keep it for...ever. at least 10 years, maybe trade it in for a Gen 8 Camaro or Gen 9 Vette.

Yeah I'd want to keep this one for a while. I've been known to keep trading (read losing money) vehicles every couple years. This would be my prize so I think I'd hang on to it for a while. No idea how long a VERY well maintained, lightly tracked ZL1 will last mileage wise??? 150,000? Spirited daily driving implied.

Daily driver isn't the issue when you drive reasonable distances, but like the op, 100k miles in 4 years is a lot of depreciation.
