I have seen the pipes pointed down before, only problem is when you rev the car up, it blows away all the dirt and debris all around the car and up in the air, towards the crowd and the nooks and crannies underneath the car too.

yeah, but if he runs sidepipes...

not to mention, he could run cutouts with turndowns. won't use them much when sitting still. and you'd be suprised at how much dirt and debris gets flung at your car during regular operation already.
