Will I need mufflers?

I am going to be putting 1 7/8" headers on very soon. I'm in Cali so its illegal already anyways so I'm going to use the cat delete pipes that come with them (I know a smog tech). Right now I have a muffler delete done. So my question is, if I were to run the headers with no cats and muffler delete on the stock exhaust with stock LS3 resonator would this be unbearably loud? Like a cop magnet loud just with normal driving? Will I have to throw on some mufflers? My last vehicle was a straight piped 7.3L Powerstroke diesel so I am used to loud. How would it compare?

Oh and one last thing. I plan on running a custom jannety racing tune on an SCT handheld once I install the headers. My question is, with this tune and headers with no cats, will I still pass the tailpipe portion of the smog test? Thanks for the help.

Everyone has their own preference but that basic setup is definatley going to be freaking loud. I've heard one but without the resonators and it was just too over the top for me. IMO it will definately be a cop magnet....not to mention the drone I'm sure it would have.

The good thing is that you can always try it. Worst case is you put on mufflers or end up buying a different cat-back.

Yes to all of the above.

Not necessarily. Its your opinion. I have the exact setup you are talking about. Have a listen and make your own decision.

I have the LT's on mine w/ high flow cats and had 3" muflfers. LOUD AS SH!T.

Yes, you will need mufflers...unless you want every officer in a one mile radius to know you are coming.

alittle bit but I do drive to dallas and austin alot. The cops raise an eyebrow but don't pay me much attention. Probably because I don't draw more attention than needed. I already have two strikes from the start. Loud Car and Noticeable color. No need to add speading to the equation. lol

Forget passing smog. No cats, no pass. You'll fail the visual and the sniffer- do not pass go, do not collect $200.

And yes, the setup you described could be called "straight pipes", and is going to be LOUD. I'm all for noisy muscle, but if you're driving this car daily, it's gonna be way over the top, and probably get you tickets.

I'd suggest some mufflers, and maybe some different midpipes with hi-flow cats. At least that way you could pass the sniffer and maybe pay the smog guy to not look under the car... Will still be plenty loud.
