I think mine just went bust. Will know more tomorrow I suppose. I'll post my vin once they confirm they're gonna fix it under warranty. Don't want them finding this and trying to void it or some shit even though it's 100% bone stock.

What's interesting is that it made a clanking sound when being pushed. Is that normal? Maybe it's not the output shaft?

That sucks dude. :(

Could be a cv joint. The output shafts and cv joints have been breaking.

Purple-ish fluid drained like a mofo. It was like my baby was bleeding to death lol. I looked underneath and it's like right in the middle of the car, about where the transmission output shaft would be.

The output to drive shaft flange bolts will clank if the broken shaft falls out. I pushed the shaft back in an inch or two and it would roll with out clanking. No fluid leaks.

My Vin was 9113782.

Confirmed, 18934's output shaft kicked the bucket. Going to be a few days to get a replacement transmission.

How many miles are on yours? Did you do any burnouts or try launch control?

Mine is 13899, I have 6200 miles, havent tried LC but I have done a couple burnouts and drive pretty spiritedly with no issue so far, I figured if it was an issue it would crop up by now.

~4300 miles. I've used launch control, no crazy burnouts (but there are a few black strips with my name on them). I thought if it was going to break it would've done so already. Apparently not.

I'm beginning to believe that this problem really is a problem on most if not all of the cars built in that range. Due to the fact that it's metal hardening issue, one may be better off than the other but they probably all have it to some degree. I don't know much about the internals of the transmission but even if they knew one was bad but hasn't broken, they may have to swap the whole transmission anyways; it would undoubtedly be a costly repair even if they don't have to swap in a whole new unit. So in GM's eyes, it's probably much easier/cheaper to replace the ones that push their cars and have them break than it would be to bring all of the affected cars in and fix them before they've got snap, crackle, pop. There's probably a lot of people with SS's out there that could have incredibly weak output shafts but will never find out because they don't drive their car like it was meant to be driven.

I think you hit the nail on the head.

My only other thought is, is the problem fixed on later vins, or do they just need a few more miles, and/or a few more launches?

We will see.

Hope your car gets fixed fast.

When they had that big hold, I think they had it fixed. So somewhere in the ballpark of 25k and on I would say are safe.

You should have it back quick, mine got towed Sunday night by Monday morning they knew it needed a transmission because of the output shaft, transmission came in Wednesday or Thursday and car was all ready Friday morning. You should definitely be getting a new transmission, when I was thinking about the shafts threads stripping I pictured them going into the internals of the transmission.
