My mustang felt slower from 0 to about 40 than this new Camaro. A couple reasons I feel this way (and it's just a feeling since I never obviously drove them at the same time but I did literally walk out of one and into the other).

The mustang's stock 1st gear seemed really really short to me. So in a quick launch from dead stop, you'd be shifting that first big shift around what felt like 25mph. While you're doing the shifting and that slight pause, the other cars would either pulling away slightly or right next to you. It wasn't until you put it in 2nd gear and had that range of power that took you from like 30 to around basically 60mph. THAT's when the Mustang really left other cars in the dust (or at least felt like it did).

So this V6 Camaro no doubt in my mind would beat my old GT from 0 - 30 or 35mph. It's when the GT hit 35/40 that the longer gearing and V8 surge in 2nd gear would overtake many cars. You felt the thing throw you back in the seat (like you said, the torque difference each car has). You really don't feel that in the V6 Camaro.. the g-forces pushing you back, so to speak. From 30/40 on up, the acceleration is "gentle" for lack of a better term. It's there. It IS fast. But when my chevy dealer tells me this car is faster than my old one, I remind him it's a great car, and I like it as much or more than the GT, but don't tell other customers it's faster because it's not.

Also I would say that since I'm not a "professional" driver, manual transmission to me, while I prefer it most of the time, is slower for me through the gears.

My Camaro is automatic so that's one less thing slowing me or the car down and why it seems faster to me from 0-40mph range. From 40mph and up the GT feels quite a bit stronger. "Feels" is the key word here though. Nothing to back that up except my head snapping back faster or slower

Well I drove a buddies new 5.7 Hemi Charger the other day and I hate to say it spanked my V-6 Camaro. 0 to 60 times are pretty similar but the pure torque makes the V-8 very formidable. The 2010 Hemi is rated at 368 HP and 395 lb torque and weighs 4085 lb. I thought my 3700 lb Camaro would make this a drivers race. Unfortunately the high torque numbers of the hemi lets the Charger pull away under WOT from the Camaro pretty well at speeds over 80. With the older Hemi 5.7 in the Charger it is definitely a drivers race against my V-6 Camaro. The higher HP and torque really help the Charger. I feel the V-6 Camaro with 19" wheels out handles the Hemi Charger and would be a drivers race on a course with a lot of curves and short straightaways. On longer straightaways and higher speeds I'm afraid the Charger is faster. I really felt my Camaro brakes a little quicker than the Charger which help on a road cours. I'm not dissatisfied with my 1LT but for a large 4 door sedan the Hemi Charger is a nice ride and I can only imagine how an SRT8 would be. I still feel my 1LT 3.6 has enough power and I didn't buy it to race. Just passing along a perspective as ultimately I'm a car guy.

I wouldn't feel bad getting beat by a hot V8. I could care less if even a V6 Charger would be faster than my Camaro. I prefer the style, sound & cost of entry for the Camaro.

I'm having trouble deciding if I really want the V8 now. Still trying to sell my is350 so it's giving me more time to think.

I can get a fully loaded 2LT/RS M6 or a 1SS no RS.

I keep telling myself it's a sports car and I don't need leather or options but I love the price on the V6 with leather and RS etc... I would basically have the same horsepower as my 350, and getting the V8 would be like upgrading to an ISF... I can see the speeding tickets now, lol.

Am I just buying the V8 for the sound of the motor and the speed when merging on the freeway? Arrrggghh, I hate buying new cars.

I would test drive both V6 & V8's. I never even bothered to test a V8. The 6 was strong enough for me. The LS3 is a BAAAD engine....but I don't need 426hp since my 2 yo son is with me a lot. I speed enough with "just" 300ish HP lol

If you think you'll regret not getting an RS or 8, then do it if you can afford it!

Its an amazing motor for a V6 but there are a ton of cars more faster and powerful then it.
I own a V6 (Synergy) and these are my thoughts exactly. If you get a V6, accept that its a V6. I did test drive the V8 and it is pretty awesome but I'm 23 and on a budget lol (Paying for the car by myself, no co-signers) and this is my first NEW car, so what I'm trying to say is, don't live beyond your means and get the car the makes you happy.

The V6 has plenty of power for merging on the freeway.. Unless ALL the traffic is doing over 100 mph... you should not have any trouble getting up over any legal speed limit before having to merge... (I haven't found a merge lane yet where I couldn't get at least 10 MPH over the speed limit)

Dude listen I can tell you if u felt your head jerk back in the V8 CAMARO u will feel the same thing, but more jerking with nitros or with a tubro in a V6 CAMARO. V6+TUBROO>V8 CAMARO and also V6 CAMARO+ NITROUS> V8 CAMARO
