CAI maintenance / service
Just curious from the current owners of the C.A.I. intake what is required to maintain and service the unit? This will be my first purchase of an after market intake so I was just curious if and how often you are require to clean or replace the cone, etc. etc...
Also, why in the world is the black intake more than the ceramic? Thought it would be vise versa...

CAI said the lastest black intakes are ceramic coated then the black put on. But in all fairness to the early ones, the black coating isn't just on the tube it's the whole system. Ceramic is just the tube.

The black powdercoat is more because we do the powdercoat over the ceramic coating. Also the entire box gets coated where the ceramic silver set up gets Jo finish on the box. I hope this helps, thanks for choosing CAI Inc. I know you will be happy with your choice!! |

I'm also interested in buying a CAI intake. Does in come pre oiled? Are there any on line specials? When I recieve my income tax check it will be burning a hole in my pocket.

I have the dry version and just brush mine out and rinse with water unless they also sell a wet version

Last stupid question...
I know with a basic air filter you just remove...clean or replace. With this intake are you just replacing/cleaning or is it required to clean the tube as well?

My understanding is that there should'nt be any dirt in the tube. If so, the filter is doing it's job.

With the filter off, run your hand up inside the tube and feel around. There shouldn't be any dirt or oil up inside the tube but if there is, it would be a good time to take if off and rinse it out. Know that there will probably be a little bit of oil from the PCV line between it and the TB, unless you have a catchcan.

Our filters all come oiled, there should be no need to do any type of cleaning to the intake tube.

I didn't think CAI offered a dryflow filter.

I have the black and it is awesome looking. The sound at WOT is amazing. It screams muscle. Excellent and easy install.

The black does look pretty damn sweet....that is my biggest problem right now, deciding between the two.

I have the original, with about 10K miles. I haven't done anything. The screws that hold the top on, don't seem to lock anymore, just spin at a closed position. It still fits securely and doesn't feel loose. I'm sure I must have over tightened them. The filter itself still looks clean and new. I'm very happy with the CAI intake. The black one wasn't available, when I bought mine.
