Installed the Dynomax #39494 Axleback today (w/ video)
So after much research, and watching video, after video, and listening to sound clip after sound clip I decided that the Dynomax 39494 axle back was the way to go for me. To my knowledge I'm the first "regular joe" to install, and upload a video, all I was able to find before was the video made by Dynomax...
The exhaust kit was on back order from Jeg's for 2 weeks, but finally showed up yesterday. I wasn't in a hurry as I was saving $13.50 by ordering from Jegs rather than Summit which supposedly had it in stock. Tools required: Hyd Jack (or lift, if you're living the dream), jackstands, sawsall (probably fastest, with the least amount of sparks), Impact gun, file, socket. Total install time took 2 hours, although I probably spent 30-45 minutes to try and get them aligned with the rear fascia exhaust exit holes to my likings. I found the fit, was probably a little off from the factory, but I also ran out of time, so I got them as close as I could, and I will try for more another day. Being just a regular guy without a lift, it was a little tricky, I got the car up on stands, but there wasn't enough room to get the sawsall between the floor and the car to cut the OEM exhaust, so I had to jack one side of the car up past where the jack stand would reach, then lower back down and do the other side. The only tip I have is that I found I got a little more room if I undid the factory rubber hangers towards the rear end before I cut the pipe; the instructions say to unhook after the cut. Here is a pic of the rear of the car after the install: You can see that the tips aren't exactly aligned with the exit holes, and that the mufflers on either side aren't sitting the same. I believe the stuff on the passenger side is "correct", it is centered, and sticks out a bit farther than the stuff on the drivers side... This weekend when I have time I will try to see if I can't get the drivers side to match the pass. side, because I think it looks better. And now here's the video! It's not great quality, but I think you'll get the idea. or click here So how do I like it? It's ok. It's got the sound I'm looking for, but it needs to be slightly louder. I think the next step is to get rid of the resonators. If that doesn't do it, I guess its onto the cats Last edited by Jason@JacFab; 05-05-2010 at 11:32 PM. Reason: adding text |

Sounds good.
I had dynomax on my stroked Impala SS and loved it. Mav

sounds good, maybe an xpipe and cut the resonators out should help you get louder

Jason,
Just ordered mine today from Advanced Auto Parts. Price is $320.00 shipped with a $50.00 coupn available to anyone on-line. Plus, Dynomax has a $75 deibit card / rebate for purchases Now through 10/2011. Net Purchase = $245.00...Figured I can't go wrong at that price.... I am looking for a nice Growl that doesn't give too much cabin noise. How would you say they rank on those expectations? Thanks |

If you want it to be louder then get rid of the cats and add headers if you can! They aren't that hard to install at all!!

UPDATE
I put those on last summer, but now I have headers and high flow cats and can't wait to hear how the sound will change. They were pretty mild before.
Update on sound. I liked these mufflers when I put them on but they were not very loud. Yesterday I fired her up for the first time with the headers and hi flo cats, it went from rock 'n roll to heavy metal. What a difference!

I have the Complete Dynomax cat-back exhaust. Paid $600 and I love it. It got louder after about 5000 miles.

That Dynomax cat-back sounds so good, hollywood! Where did you get it from?
I am thinking about trading up to an SS soon, and I'm already looking at mods...lol. |

I loved my Dynomax VT! Granted mine was paired with a Cam/headers but it sounded absolutely beast, and the best part was the ZERO Drone...
