im trying to decide what version on the camaro i want to purchase when they come to my local dealers...

guys im confused, i know the 306hp V6 starts at 22k.

is the 1SS (that starts at 30k) a LS3 ?
or is the 2SS the LS3 engine?

There are 2 V-8 engines. One for the manual transmission and one for the Auto transmission. Regardless of whether you get a 1SS or a 2SS.

Both V-8 Are LS-3
Automatics use 400 H.P. version.
Manuals get 426 H.P. version

Welcome to the site!!!
Both ss models are V8's
LS3 manual
L99 is the Automatic version of the LS3 was my understanding
A lot of good motor heads on the site so I am sure any of your questions can be answered. Take a look around the thread

ok... before this goes too far...

1SS & 2SS are trim levels involving interiors & comfort options.

there are 2 V8s - the L99 & LS3 - both of which are 6.2L

the L99 is rated at 400hp and is used with the automatic
the LS3 is rated at 426hp and is used with the manual

they are basically the same engine except for the fact the the L99 has Active Fuel Management technology.

unless you plan on really using all that power a bunch, i'm willing to bet the V6 will be just fine for you. it has really surprised everyone who's driven it, and it'll save you the extra money - not only on the sticker, but on insurance, at the pump, etc

Good plan. But again, just an FYI here, use the search box on the forum to search and see if your question is discussed. Like this question. That search has helped me tons.

They are very much the same engine. AFM produces a couple of barriers to bypass with tuning and forced induction, but the ability to respond to modifications remains about the same. Remember that the tune for the L99 is aggressive, so that 26-hp difference is not hurting performance.
