DefenderWorx Camaro Black Locking Fuel Door #CB-1006

Just got through installing this fuel door.

A few things I don't like is that the locking mechanism just locks into an L shaped metal bracket that doesn't fit very snug so there is a gap with the fuel door closed. The gap is towards the rear of the car where the lock is. I'll have to think of a way to install a better locking mechanism so that the door will close and be more secure.

The installation requires you to remove a tube shapes plastic piece near the gas cap and install the bracket over it. It says to use double sided tape when re-installing. This isn't a very good idea because given the small gap, someone could just pull really hard and the double sided tape will give.

Overall not a good experience with a $200 fuel door. If you hold it next to the stock fuel door it isn't exactly the same shape either so there are many reasons for it not fitting flushed and having a gap.

That's why I went with the GM Nickel Fuel door and had it painted satin black to match my stripes.

Interesting to hear the same issue with other pieces they sell.
I bought those inserts with the fuel door and shark gills.

The inserts sucked. Wouldn't fit into bowties cuz they were not cast at the same angle as the bowties.

Fuel door locking mechanism was flimsy and cheap. just like the OP described.

Kept the shark gills and sent everything else back.

I believe the bowties are supposed to go on top of the gold bowties, not replace them.

I picked up one of these fuel doors on eBay for $80.00 6 months ago. Good thing I didn't pay full price for it because BOTH keys crapped out the first time I went to unlock mine!!

I eventually got it unlocked and would have gone back to the stock fuel door, but that's impossible since you have to cut off a portion of stock fuel door mounting bracket.

I vote save your money for something else

Gas Cap

Installed A SS cap on my Camaro from Camarocollection by Defenderworx.
no problems except my lock didn't work but they sent me a new lockw/keys in 2 days & worked real well, no problems, Looks good & still locks after the instructions were followed.
My opinion is that the stock lid is open to anyone who passes by but at least w/ the Dwx cap they have to try to pull it open w a sharp tug or screwdriver. Good luck w yours.

The fuel lock mechanism needs a bunch of special bends adjustments (none of which they tell you about) but I have made mine work perfectly with the key once altered.

I doubt Chevy will do anything.

Anyway, here's some pics of my GM Nikel Fuel Door painted satin black and my Defenderworx shark gills.

I just installed mine yesterday. Definitely took more than 15 min. More like an hour, but that is because of the minor adjustments I had to come up with to make the door close flush. Basically what made mine work was to remove the rubber grommet on the clicky deal (technical term for the part that acts like a button on a pen) and cut off the tip of that plastic post that moves in and out when closing the stock door. Then make one or two adjustments to the bracket they supplied and your done. Obviously someone could still get into it with a stiff pry from a tool, but you are not getting in with your bare hands. I'm loving it. Just ordered the black CAMARO lettering for the fenders!

Lost gas cap key

How would you go about opening this thing if you've lost the key?

Don't lose the key?

Lol.

Anyway, I bought the chrome fuel door from camarocollection and basically I cannot get the locking mechanism out as easily as it was described in the defenderworx installation guide. I was able to pop it by poking through the hole at the base but it doesn't come out. It's stuck on something and I don't want to force it. Can anyone give me any tips? Basically this fuel door is just aesthetics for now... I really want to put on the provided metal bracket so it can at least lock, even though it's not really "reliable."

I paid $200 that I can never get back!
