Some of these test were on 2011 cars compared to a 2012 ZL1 but i dont believed they changed much on the Z06 from one year to the next.
Not saying a ZL1 can beat a Z06 any given day, but there isn't that much difference.
The ZL1 ran a 2:57.5 at this years Lighning Lap. As Hognutz stated, you are confusing Aaron Links time with Car & Drivers.

It came out of a Car and Driver mag. It was the 2012 Lighting Lap results. I wouldn't think they would use all of there times except one, but whatever you say.

Hey Now - Be easy. Nothing wrong with a 911! I have had a C6 too. C6, more of an old Man's car, C6 Vert, more of a Woman's car, 911 = all around perfection!

True it is not a muscle car, but an incredible car it is. I am all about Muscle Cars, have had 50+ but when I really want to go drive and have it all, I take my 911.

I will always stick to my story. Riverside raceway in southern California in the late 1970's, the older guys on here will remember the track. I was attending an SCCA event there and witnessed in the A production race a 1969 Camaro walk the field in their race. The class also included the Porsche 911. They were the ones chasing him. I will never forget the sound of that "muscle car" WOT as it went past us on the straight. I have been in several of them and the car I did enjoy the most was the Carrera 4. My best friend since second grade is a Porsche mechanic. I don't like the look of the interior as it has not changed significantly since it's inception. Ride in a Volkswagen and then jump into the Porsche, you can feel the heritage since some was used in designing the Porsche. Both cars (ZL1,911) are tail happy which is funny since you said when you "want to go drive and have it all". It's a status symbol for some guys when they buy them. It's funny as they end up being total buttholes when you try and talk about cars with them. It appears that you are really a true car enthusiast which is cool.

I was just kidding. I tell all my friends that drive 911's that there chick cars, I know better, there really nice. I have a Vette and my wife likes the Camaro better because it's easier to get in and out of. Don't get the wrong idea, she is 5.3 and 110 lbs. Hopefully she likes the C7s, but I will keep my Camaro's.

they dont' make cup tires in 20's to even test the ZL1. I would love to see a 580-600whp ZL1 on some r compounds around a track though. I think people would be astonished.

Don't take it as I am knocking the ZL1. Now that I have a couple mods I am ear to ear grinning when I drive it.
I didn't know the cup tires didn't come in 20's... Doesn't the Z06 have 20" rear wheels stock? Maybe you mean they don't come in the 20x11 sizes like the ZL1. Either way, what are some super sticky tires for the ZL1? I'll need to replace mine soon and definitely don't want to get the stock ones again. I'd like a set that grips better, especially since I plan to add some power this summer with 90mm TB, 2.5 pulley, & 1 7/8 headers

tires are on odd balance because the tires that gip well at that level have no treadwear.

I am going to run the michelin Super sports when my are toast for daily driving.

you could buy a set of say 19" wheels and run the CUP tires on them.

toyo makes the 888 tires in 20" inches they are r compound 140 tread rating. all the other ones i am aware of are 18-19"

I am very interested to see how the C7 laps. what they did with the 1le which is basically all gearing and suspension mods is amazing to me. It laps so much better than an SS it is crazy at same HP level.

So with a bit of hp upgade ont he vette and some good engineering that car might be very quick on the track.

Once thing though I feel like the C7 will lack just like a stock 1le or ZL1 kind of lacks is just brute force acceleration like a c6 Z06 or 2013 GT500 have. I mean right out the gate as delivered there will be some people just afraid of the power those cars have stock.

I remeber when I picked up my Z06 on paper it is 70hp vs my ls3 Vette but it just pulled on another level. you are pedaling at 70-80mph on dry pavement. it is just plain fun. I merged on to I-5 after I bought it at like 145mph. I rember hitting like 120 in third going wow that is cool.

That is kind of how my zl1 is getting now. back to really throw you back kind of pull. think I may needs headers and possbly cam. stock it was just decent IMO.

they say they have cleaned up the drivabily of the vette which will be great. I found both mine to be a bit harsh at the limit. If I got it lose it would give me butterflies sometimes when it snapped back. give you that ohh crap feeling. I get less of that in my Zl1 get a bit lose and the car comes back to me in a more predicable fashion. Much of that comes just from not enough seat time but that is why some of these cars I think even the magazine guys lap good becasue the car cominicates the limit better.

I mean with a pro behind the wheel the 2013 GT500 is pretty impressive lap times but with a normal driver it always seem to be more on the average side based on power level.

Interesting Article:
http://www.torquenews.com/1083/which...vette-stingray

"Overall this matchup is very close. If you are going to the racetrack with your base Corvette Stingray every weekend, good for you. You may be the first. In that case the Corvette Stingray would be a contender. However, if like 99.9% of Chevy owners you will never track your car, or do so only on rare occasions the winner is the 2013 Camaro ZL 1. It is just so much more unique and almost as capable performance wise. On the road is simply a more fun car to drive."

Too bad they haven't actually driven the 2014 Corvette Stingray so it's all speculation much like anything on the forums these days.

Interestingly enough though GM appears to be dumping LS3 replacement inventory (hello LT1 for 2014?):
http://www.prweb.com/releases/chevy-...eb10531300.htm

No matter how you look at it 2014 is awesome for all American car enthusiasts, purchase one or all, Camaro/Corvette/Mustang/Viper are the best they've ever been.

The Camaro is made in Canada by a multinational conglomerate and the Viper's parent company is Fiat, an Italian corporation. There is no more "American Muscle".

post in in then. the only 2:52 I have seen is with Aaron link behind the wheel.

google VIR lap times it is right there in print. It did happen it was just with a very good shoe behind the wheel.

If Jim Mero ran the Z07 arond the track he would smash that time.

You magazine racing with different class drivers which scews the results by quite a few seonds usually. maybe in your mind that stuff does not matter but in reality it matters quite.

same day same driver the ZL1 is not going to beat a Z06 or GTR. In print though it has faster times than both around VIR. diffrent days different drivers is scewing the results.
