Thumbs up Which Would You Rather Have?

With all the ongoing discussion regarding a possible "Z/28", slotted price-wise between a 2SS and a ZL1, one of the great debates is "what engine"?

There's a camp that prefers a "hot" LS3, with perhaps 450 hp/440 ft-lb. There's a camp calling for a wet-sump'd LS7, with 505 hp/470 ft-lb. Assuming a final price "difference" of about $5,000 in favor of the "hot" LS3, which would YOU prefer?

1) "Hot" LS3 @ 450/440 minus $5,000

2) "Wet" LS7 @ 505/470 plus $5,000

EDIT:

Sorry folks!!! In the Poll, Option 1) should read 450 hp/440 ft-lb!!

Damn dyslexic fingers...

"Hot", "Cold", "Wet", "Dry" doesn't mean anything to me except for the numbers 440hp. vs 505hp. Duh!!!!!
Also, doesn't the LS7 come with forged internals?
I've said it all along, rather pay GM $5k, than to have to do it myself (achieve more power w/ engine safety). And, although I don't care about warranty issues (post mods). This way those that want high HP#'s, without having to mod, can keep their warranties intact.

I agree with Calbert1999.....and the fact that the LS7 is more in keeping with the 1st gen's high reving 302.

Neither, I want the Z/28 to come with a Gen V V8. I doubt it would cost much more than an Ls3, but it should have power similar to the LS7.

This poll I assume is for a 5Gen Camaro. Gen V, not gonna happen in a 5Gen. If we're gonna see a 5Gen Camaro it has to be an LS7 as nothing else will be available that fits the bill.

To bring an LS3 up to the internal hardware specs of an LS7 would cost what? And then forget the factory warranty.
And being able to say you have a 427 in your Z28 would be AWESOME!!!

I wouldn't be so sure about that, since the 2014 MY, VF commodore is coming to america with supposedly a Gen V V8. I don't see why GM wouldn't do a 5th gen Camaro Z/28 with a Gen V V8, especially when you consider that both are Zeta 2 vehicles. Beside I highly doubt GM gen IV V8s will even be in production past 2014, heck the new trucks will be out before that and they will have a Gen V V8.

And changed the results to reflect your intent:
-1 for LS3
+1 for LS7

Which one? The small truck engine? The big truck engine? The mainstream performance V8? A high powered forced induction mill? A race bred naturally aspirated unit? You can bet that there will be gen V's filling all those roles. So if you don't think there will be a Z28 until the gen V engines debut, thats fine. Just remember that the SS & ZL1 won't simply keep going on and on with their old gen IV's while the Z28 gets a gen V.

That is also true, but if the Z gets a Gen V engine in MY 13 or 14, i am sure that the SS will get a 5th also, maybe just a smaller or larger CID depending on where GM wants the Z/28 to fit in the order. I am still a hold out for the Gen V in the fifth gen camaro Z/28! You should still update the poll for us hopefuls!!

I voted for LS7. It would be great if the Z28 is gunna be offered with a 427ci. motor and not be more than $50k. also with the Z28 having a 427 the Boss would be demolished!

But I doubt that GM is gunna offer the LS7 to the Z28 (if theres really one coming) because it gunna make the cost of the car go up with the track ready suspenion.

I think GM is gunna put a Dry sump 450hp LS3 and track ready suspension in the Z28 to keep the cost in between the SS and ZL1.

But a High Revving engine would be a much better choice.
