I love my new PFADT 1.4" lowering springs - pics inside
I installed a set of the PFADT 1.4” lowering springs on my 2012 SS and man these things are great. At first I was a little hesitant on modifying the suspension as I didn’t want to compromise ride quality.
I can tell you hands down, if you’re looking to lower your Camaro, go with the PFADT springs as they give you the perfect stance and my ride quality is the same as stock! I took my time installing these springs (by myself) on a Saturday afternoon and it took me ~6hrs start to finish including taking about 3 breaks in between. This was the first time I’ve ever done any type of suspension work and on a scale of 1 (easiest) -10 (hardest), I give the install a 2. The instructions included are great and anyone with a simple set of tools and small amount of mechanical ability won’t have any issues at all. Go order yourself a kit, here is the one I installed - http://store.afecontrol.com/afe-cont...-camaro-10-15/ Here are some of the highlights and pics Rear before Rear after Front before: Front after: Front and rear together (after install) Make sure you secure on jack stands before you get started Don’t want to bloat this this thread with install insctructions as they are very detailed with the kit. Rear removed Heres the rear taken apart: Make sure to go rent yourself a spring compressor from your local auto parts store, here is the PFADT rear spring installed: Heres is the rear PFDAT spring installed on the car Rear is done, note: I am running 275x35x20’s on the rear so about .5” lower profile tire compared to stock, on to the fronts.. (IMO the rear was the hardest) Taking out the front… Spring compressor time! First front spring installed! Now don’t forget to go get yourself an alignment once you’re done drooling over your new stance! |

I've read on here that a spring compressor really isn't needed, is this not true?

I didn't use a spring compressor when I did the springs on my 2012 SS. I did some research and saw a few videos and found out the spring compressor is not necessary. I was a little skeptical when I heard this but it is true. There is very little pressure on the stock springs. Also with the lowered replacment springs it is not necessary to compress them to install them on the stock struts. I do have a compressor but it can be done without it.

Agreed, you can take the spring off without a compressor (just makes it ALOT easier if you have one), just a little bit of compression on the stockers, doesn't scare you too bad
However, you will need someone to help getting the new spring on without a compressor, I couldn't do this by myself. Last edited by ba2ss; 11-16-2015 at 01:24 PM. |

Not sure what you mean, can you explain a bit more?
Also, I did trim my bump stops (took off 1"). Its kind of interesting, the Hotchkis install instructions (on their 1" drop kit) didn't mention this, only the PDFAT install said to trim the stops so I did. |

Loosen the bolts on your suspension bushings so the can find and adjust to your new ride height or they will bind. Because your ride height is now lower. I would think the weight of the car would do this but maybe not!!

Sorry for bumping this old thread. But is the new PFADT springs (AFE) identical to the springs that PFADT, and APEX used to sell in the past?
I mean do they have the same exact manufacturing process, spring rates, lowering height, etc.. |
