And the kid he has for an apprentice is a good kid. Eager to learn doesn't have a know it all attitude. Since I'm pretty easy to work with the super asked me if I would be willing to work directly with the apprentice on some smaller things... I gave him a sideways look, Chris the young kid was standing right there, and I said, "I don't know... he's been checking out my wife's butt... At least teach him to hide it a little better..." The super said, "He's such a rookie"

We all had a good laugh and Chris took it on the chin, and made it clear he wasn't looking at her butt... "I said, well it was either hers or mine... so which was it. "

Of course the super kept telling him, "you better give the man an answer..."

He'll be fine...

Thanks! Can't wait.
We have all been there.

You did good. He'll remember it for a long time.

I'd have given him an out. I'm a softy. Maybe something like, "Hell you better have been, or you were looking at mine."

In case you're still pissed about that whole 4 thousand mile road trip thing, I'll visit AFTER the concrete is poured.

I'm betting concrete is already done by now.

I'm stopping by every day when I can. Trying to shake hands with all the guys I can. Just seems like the right thing to do since they are doing the work to get me my new home.

This is the second home we've built... Unfortunately budget kept us from building the house we really wanted but the next house, whenever that is, will be exactly what we want.

These guys move pretty quick So I should have the majority of the walls up by end of week.

If I do get a chance to build a shop, I'll have a house built next to it.

We were out there minimum every other day. I was always in contact with my builder. This way if I saw a "mistake" or a "forgot", I could bring it up immediately so we didn't run into a "It's to late to do/fix that".

We only did one walkthrough with the builder after the build process started and that was at mid build. We got together to make sure all the outlets and A/V ports were correct before they sprayed the foam insulation, what we wanted for shelving/hanging rods in the closets and cupboard design/layout.

If you're in the market for advice... Get a cheapo ice chest and fill it with water or Gatorade every day. The workers will take care of the people that take care of them. Leave a watermelon, have your wife bake them a cake or pie, anything to give them a special treat every chance you get. I did this due to someone else telling me how well it worked out for them and it pays off big time to have them on your side if you want or need anything. I got my garage sheet rock (walls and overhead) finished and painted at no additional cost just by telling the lead guy one day I'd like to do this.... and his crew did it no questions asked.

I bought the guys working on my house a case every Saturday I was home... I still had to occasionally fight the crew leader... I do not for a minute believe this was an "A" team... Too difficult to explain some of the problems, but we did get them resolved one way or the other before we moved in...
