MERGED: All discussions about 100k-mile warranty being reduced to 60k miles

Doesn't sound good

wow, that's pretty amazing they'd do that. it's obviously a cost saving move for GM. Doesn't seem like a company that has faith in their power trains. not good.

It's a cost-reward situation. Customers don't care that the warranty is 100k miles, which is regrettably true. How many sales has GM given up to Toyota, Honda, Ford, and other companies that offer a 60k-mile warranty? Manufacturing is already more expensive for GM, so they don't need additional costs hindering their ability to produce quality vehicles.

Since Buick and Cadillac use the same power trains in most of their vehicles I don't see them losing faith in their power trains.... If that were the case don't you think they would not only cut the miles but the years on all brands? I mean I dont think most people put 100k miles on their cars in 5 years anyway. I have a 2008 Saturn Vue that just recently turned over 60,000 miles.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^This.

The 100k mark in 5 years is just crazy anyways...if you are driving a vehicle that much to begin, an aftermarket warranty would be a wise purchase.

I daily drive my Camaro...and it is 4 years old as of about 2.5 weeks ago...it has 46k on it... I'll hit 5 years before I hit 60k on my car...

My brother drives a full size Chevy 4x4 truck that he easily puts over 100K miles on in 5 years. And it is not his DD.

it's a good move. People like to hold their hand out for free repairs beyond 100k. With them dropping the warranty to match the other manufacturers this should cut down on their total cost per vehicle and will help keep new car prices competitive. hopefully.

you guys crazy... most people in big cities drive 15k-20k miles a year easily. a 12k mile lease is considered low mileage.

GM still has a hard time convincing Japanese import owners to buy GM. Lowering the powertrain warranty won't help this.

If I recall correctly, Indianapolis is l believe the 16th or 17th largest US city. I drive round trip to work about 40 miles a day...

And no, I don't put 15-20k on my car a year...

Girlfriend's Chevy Cruze that she purchased brand new May 10, 2014 (the day after I got my Camaro) has over 33K on it. She had to replace the turbo last month. I think she will make it to 100K before the 5 year mark. But I understand why GM would lower the warranty mileage since most people don't drive that much.

Just a selling point, BS how about the quality of your car, I Love my Camaro and voided the Warranty at 4k miles so this would not have any bearing on me but this sends the wrong message IMO.

Ouch.

I know, as a Certified Pre-Owned owner, I'll be hitting the year cap before I hit the mileage cap. I think that is the case for most people, new or pre-owned owners.

They don't mention the year cap changing, which at least that is good.
