You're probably correct about that, but probably not for the reason you're thinking. Sales usually start to slide a bit after year three of any design b/c the car begins to get long in the tooth, which is why a Mid Cycle Enhancement, or MCE is usually done after the 3rd year.
If the numbers are down for the 2014 version it will have almost nothing to do with tail lights. For proof of that all anyone needs to do is to look at Enators chart, the car has declined in sales every year since it's debut.

And you'll be devastated if they aren't..... There is all sort of evidence that sales deteriorate 20% by the third year of a lifecycle - therefore, Mid-cycles are planned at some point. If you go back to 2008, there was caterwauling of all sorts when people saw the taillamps and back-up lamps of the current Camaro. People actually were struck sterile when they saw the steering wheel on the 2010! (...at least you'd think they were by the carrying-on on this very site....) -- and yet people must have fell in love with it - because when we changed it for 2012, the world was going to come to an end. We'd never be able to sell the car with the hideous new wheel................ Once again I'll ask you to cut everyone a break - and wait until you see the 2014 Camaros in person - you just MAY be surprised! (..........but I have a feeling that no matter what we do, you'll still have something to say about it........)

Believe it not there are people out there that will love the refresh. IMO there will be a uptick in sales due to the refresh - but I think the overall trend will stay on a downward slop. Had GM not done a refresh then the downward slope would have been greater - so I think it was necessary for GM to make changes to keep the style fresh and get new buyers in the door. Overall you'll see Camaro beat out the Mustang until Ford releases the next Gen - then you'll see Ford beat out GM for a short amount of time until GM releases the new Camaro. At that time the trend will reverse & the Camaro will beat the Mustang's a$$.

Yeap. Outside of Camaro5.com most of the people on the internet have said they like the 2014 Camaro. It'll be a hit, I know it. IMO the current taillights look too small for such a big car. The new taillights seem to fit the big body of the car. Either way, I'm sure I'd prefer the Camaro over the new Mustang that is suppose to have a front end that looks like a bass fish.

generally now the sales start dopping off overall(not design based, economy based) and summer/fall(4th quarter release) sales determine if the 'new' model will be a success are not. We'll see how 'interested' internet/street customers are in purchasing the 2014 model Camaro, despite it's local non-popularity. I am interested in seeing this model live, especially the non-RS SS, but skeptical that the refresh will change my mind. But, overall, it's just a car, and I still have my 2010 to fall back on. i really think camaro sales will pick up from off the lot sales where as challangers are all about orders. As far as mustangs go recently being in the market i can tell you Fords deals suck.... theyre such scam artists on their commercials. leasing cheap little economy cars as $189 a month with $3,999 down plus tax and tags. at that point youre talking $5,000 down for a lease and that just leaves me with a bad taste in my mouth for the brand. Also happy to help chevy this year will the purchase of my 2013 though!

I could see a lot of people (outside of Camaro5, of course) wanting to go pick up the refreshed '14. Not sure if it will cause an uptick in sales...but if the sales continue to decline I don't think it will be due to the new look whatsoever.

Wow the Challenger has really been picking up sales with no major changes to apperance. Im glad to see it! I love my Mustang, and my Camaro. but those Challengers demand your attention when you drive by one. If the wife wasnt all "more kids, more kids!" I would have a 392 Challenger parked next to the Stang and Camaro.
I think the 14 Camaro will see initial sales go up, and then drop off pretty steeply after the first few months. Although the refresh is tolerable, it just dosent have the POP that the 10-13 still have. Ford won the refresh battle in looks this time; although sales diffrence between the two will probably stay the same or get even a little closer. Lets face it though, as much as i love the S197 mustangs its almost 10 years old and is very played out. The Camaro even with a not so good refresh is still new enough to out sell the compitition. GM will have to pull some serious magic vodoo out to ever sell a camaro as well as the 10-13's sold. I hope they have something stunning planned for the 6th gen; because from how things sound, Ford is really going to drop the ball with the new 6th gen "World" (all that means is european, and not american) Mustang. |
