I don't think it's just about money. It's about the face - to -face conversation and also about the EFFORT. Today was a striking day. Emotionally it was tumultuous. It ended with some tears, but also a smile. Time will tell which one really wins out......

Delivery day is when you put the really big bucks down, when finalizing the purchase.

Refundable means you pay what they decide they want for the car and give you your refund back if you don't like it and sell it to someone else.

For me, I'd get a WRITTEN MSRP agreement with any deposit on a car. I'm not letting anyone hold that much money of mine for that long without at least a signed agreement.

Actually that deposit in many states is interest bearing, this is based on not being able to deliver the product within 30-45 days, depending on the state. Check your state law prior to signing a contact.

I ordered my SS on a handshake and I know my dealer would do the same on a ZL1. I would love to go shake my dealers hand again, but I don't have the cash to pay for a ZL1. :(

When I ordered a 11 Vert back in January, I put $30k down of my own choice.
As far as a deposit on a 13 ZL1 Vert (or even a 12 ZL1 Coupe), my dealer won't even accept a deposit till the pricing is announced. I already offered to put down any deposit they would like, but they declined the offer.

We'll see what happens after the prices are announced.

I don't understand your point.

You order a $60,000 car in your name and you want to secure the price and equipment.

If your dealer accepts a $500 deposit I guess that's their policy. For the dealer that wants $5000, that's their policy and it's up to the consumer to either pay it or not. Not saying what's right or wrong.

Like MSRP and above... dealers can charge whatever they want for a deposit.
Period. They don't have to charge anything either.
I paid $500 today.
The mentioned $5k over MSRP...
thats my decision when the time comes...
If I don't want to pay it, I don't have to bottom line.
I will decide when I decide to drive it off the lot. If I don't want it they will not have any issues selling it and Ill wait for a 2013 with MSRP or Invoice. It does not matter to me one IOTA. I look at it this way. They don't have to honor this by any means if I can wait a little longer to pay MSRP or less why wouldn't I?
Just remember this. If you ever decide to get rid of your ZL1 if you pay over MSRP that money is gone... BAM! You will never recoup it.

My first two the dealer only wanted a hand shake, and that's all that is expected this time around.

Oh yes. Whatever you do, any and all money exchanges must be documented.
