Trans Temp When Cold
What is the transmission temperature supposed to be at cold startup? I installed a GM 4-gauge cluster in my 2011 1SS LS3 a couple months ago and the trans temp gauge always reads about ~80 degrees on a cold startup (even after a full day of being parked). Is this normal? What does your gauge show when cold?

It supposed to be the temperature of the transmission at start up. You live in a desert. It's normal. If you lived in Alberta, Canada, it would not be normal.

To think about it the fluid gets hot driving. When turning off the car the transmission will slowly cool, but it is tucked up in the underbelly of the car with a heat shield above it. So it is going to stay warm for a long time. Heat rises but it does not have anywhere to really rise to under the car so it has a warm thermal layer that stays there for a long time.
