Flex fuel capable?

Anybody have any ideas if the 6th Gen will be e85 ready from the factory this time around?

With the price of gasoline going down quickly, I do not think they will go down that road. If this low gas trend keeps going you might see the end of ethanol.

Why would you want to use E85? I don't like E10.

For sure!! Ethanol sucks another government ripoff. Waste of farmland, water, and energy resources.

Why would one use E-85? Power. E-85 uses more fuel per mile but in return its use gets a significant power increase.

Exactly! Especially when we have so many oil reserves in theis country! Gasonline engines are long time proven, and just keep getting better and better, especially over the last 5 - 10 years. Who would have thought years ago V8 engines like the LT1 would be rated for almost 30 mpgs!

Ethanol has less energy in it than gasoline does. Thus, worse mileage and less power/performance. I have tried pure 91 octane in my car and the mileage goes up about 2 mpg highway over E 10. It does cost about 20 cents more per gallon than E10 premium though. I have found I get just as good mileage on 87 in my car and per manufacturer only a difference of 4HP.

My AWD Talon (700 plus HP) runs on E85 @1.99 a gallon and considering the price of race gas at 6.00-9.00 plus a gallon. That makes sense for me . I can turn the boost up to 35 lbs with the E85 but with the 93 octane I can only turn it up to about 23 lbs boost. That is a major difference in power. Also, My Dodge runs way better with the E85. I do agree me the comments above on the cost to manufacture E85 vs gasoline.

Exactly. Not sure about non-boosted engines but I run an E-85 blend with 91 in my 335i with a tune to be able to crank the boost up safely. I never though of doing it it my 4th gen with nitrous though.

This. Exactly why I was asking. All my boosted cars love the corn.

Well according to SEMA there are about a dozen states with laws in the works having Ethanol removed from Gasoline. In other news I just passed a gas station in NJ with a sign $1.89 a gallon.

E85 will make more power if the engine is designed to use it since it is equivalent to 100-105 octane. The 5.3 in the trucks is rated 355 hp on regular and 376 hp on E85.

The LT1 is not compatible with E85.

Like said above with E85 mileage goes down but HP will go up if the engine can benefit from added octane. it is not uncommon to see 30-40 rwhp gains from E85 with a tune vs. 93 octane with a tune. Can be much more with forced induction. With the E85 you can run a more aggressive tune safely due to the added octane and a slight cooling effect on the intake charge. E85 really starts to shine in power increase with forced induction applications. more boost safely more aggressive tuning. E85 puts high demand on the fuel system though when you start modding and upgraded injectors and fuel pump or boost a pump are needed when you start making big power.

The LT1 is direct injected, so you won't see reduced intake charge temperatures using E85.
