I went the plasti dip route. It started coming off when I would wash the car and made it look cheap. So I got them painted for 80 bucks. Looks much better!

Yea it does... I still like the choice for only 10 bucks to give me an idea if I would like it. Now I can upgrade to a higher gloss paint, that was my only issue was the plasti-dip gives it a matte look and I will be adding black chrome rims or high gloss rims so I would like to match it...

any recommendations for a higher gloss black paint?

G2 makes nice glossy paint for calipers and engines. I've never used them but have heard good things.

just make sure that whatever route you take, be extra careful when pulling out those bezels because the 6 plastic tabs that hold them in are very fragile. I found out the hard way. Ended up fixing it with superglue and epoxy but yea... sad

I cracked one corner of a tab but not the whole tab and it still clicks... i think everyone cracks or breaks at least one.

Plasti-dip tail bezels?

Hi All, what is the Dark Art involved here please? :-(

I've done Plasti-DIP ... lasts about a week, soon gets affected by extremes of hot & cold weather (-5 to 18 in the same day [UK]) and as soon as you do a gentle wash it starts to move or split ... in my experience.

I've done Painting ... I did a light sand all over, cleaned, promoted, painted ... lasted maybe a month before it started to Flake off.

I'd REALLY like to conquer this one, if you can help this idiot please :-)

Thank you,

I plasti-diped mine in November. I think it looks good and it has done well. It hasn't pealed or cracked. I didn't sand them or anything. Just cleaned with some rubbing alcohol before painting. Make sure to give the edges the most work. 2 light coats and 3 thick ones did the trick for me. They have lasted through -10 and road salt so far.

Plasti-dip tail bezels?

Nope :-(

Cleaning
Didn't touch at all with hands.
Plasti-DIP 3 * light coats
Plasti-DIP 3 * medium / heavy coats
Let it set.
Brushed my hand over it like I was washing it ... stretch, tear, ****'d now :-(
Pealed it all off !!

Onto the next Method...
Sanding
Cleaning
Didn't touch at all with hands.
Rustoleum Grey Primer * 2 coats
Rustoleum Satin Black * 3 coats
TBC....

Yea...The Plasti-DIP seems to be highly used among the c5ers but I just can't get past the idea of it being temporary and potentially coming off. My badging was blacked out when I bought my car. I didn't realize that it was Plasti-DIPed until it started peeling off of my 45th badge. Time to order blacked badging from Emblempros...

I Painted mine with a rattle can of GM touch up paint that matched my stripe color then sprayed a few coats of dull coat, they look great.

If you're thinking about having them painted for 80 bucks you might as well buy some online for around the same price (ebay, phastek, etc), then you can have 2 sets.

My experience with plasti dipping has been mixed. I've had my bow ties dipped for around 2 years with zero peeling. They still look good, and I scrub them when I wash, as well as blasting with a power sprayer. However I tried doing my rims and they peel pretty easily. Don't even think about using a power washer on that.

However, plasti dip will definitely give you a good indication of whether you would like it or not. Worth the 7 bucks for something temporary instead of something permanent you hate, in my opinion.
