Predicted upgrades in up coming ZL1 compared to 2SS
The 5th gen ZL1 differed from the 2SS primarily in suspension, drivetrain, and motor. You can now buy pretty much all ZL1 performance parts for your 2SS.
So what parts do you think will will be upgraded for the 2017 ZL1? The LT4 is predicted and is already found in the Stingray. Any other parts or systems currently in the corvette that will make there way into the new ZL1? |

Upgraded differential, half shafts and other suspension pieces. Obviously the wheels and tires. I'm sure they upgraded the fuel system for the LT4. Bodywork for cooling and aero.

Powertrain, standard mags, standard 2SS everything, wheel/tire... maaaaybe an e-diff which i doubt; I think its more likely the other camo'd 6th "1le" might get that instead of the zl1.

Also, am I wrong or was the 5th gen 1LE simply 2SS with some ZL1 suspension components? Is it anticipated that the 6th gen 1LE will have options not available on the ZL1 (i.e. E-diff)? |

I guess I should have been more specific. In addition to suspension upgrades you get wheels and tires, Tremec 6-speed, higher gear ratio, higher flow fuel pump/pickups.
Bhobbs I see that you drive one. What made you decide to go with the 1LE instead of the ZL1? That's probably really at the heart of asking what the differences are... |

Most 1LE owners would like to have a ZL1 for the track. I got the ZL1 because I bought used and at a great price. But the 1LE is a great track car. It really shines at the track for what little they cost in comparison to other cars out there IMHO.

I've been very tempted to do the same thing... I was able to drive one like I stole it a the LV Moter Speedway a year or so ago. Got to compare mustang GT 500, Dodge Challenger (no hellcat then), and a ZL1 on the oval. They were all a lot of fun to drive, but there was just something about the tight handling and looking through that tank slit that I just love.

the one thing that everyone forgets about the gen5 1le vs zl1 is the weight difference. I think they are ~300lbs apart and you feel it. now that being said the 1le needs more power for me but some of the cars behaviors are good and even better because of the weight reduction. I mean a 1le, cts-v/zl1 brake upgrade, some power mods will shock you just how good it is. it stops even better cause it's lighter, there is not power loss due to heat soak or just higher IAt's due to ambient temps. on the street though the 1le is not as comfortable and the drive train is not as bulletproof to mods if you want to make say 600+whp

Now to the OP, look for the new ZL1 to have much the same upgrades as the last gen did from SS to ZL1, hope the price comes in at under $67k but dont think it will, here is why, if it gets the LT4, that is a hand built motor, and a lot more pricey then the old LSA so we may get a new motor to help keep the price down, what do you think guys. |
