Cash for clunkers?

Do you think a dealer would accept a car that qualifies for this program, when I pick up my Camaro? I'll call tomorrow and ask, but I have a 1992 BMW 525i that is in driveable condition, and according to the site (cars.gov), this car qualifies for the program.

Has to be insured for a year by the person buying the new car.

If certain politicians get there way, you won't be able to get a Camaro under the program. They are trying to jack up the MPG requirements.

In addition, because New Hampshire and Wisconsin do not have an insurance requirement under State law, trade-in vehicles registered in these two States are exempt from the one-year insurance requirement.

They don't have time to re-write the law before Friday. They're just going to slam another 2 billion in there with same rules. My TPW is next week and all I need is thew VIN to give the dealer my clunker...

Makes me sick to see them destroy something less fortunate people could afford. WTF
Using our tax dollars to remove used cars and we replace with new ones, boy that ought to give our economy a boost. Its only good for the new car dealers.

I agree with the above. Many volunteer organizations are using cars much worse off and get worse gas milage than the ones being demo'd. What a STUPID, poorly thought about program...

We donated my son's old car to the Diabetes Association last year. I'll bet charities are not getting their money from similar programs now. They also should have stipulated that only AMERICAN CAR COMPANIES car's can be purchased with this program. I understand there are huge numbers of Hundai,Toyota's and Honda's being purchased with this program. What good does that do american car companies? Dumb, just plain dumb, no planning, throw something out there and hope everyone see's it as a good plan. Sorry, no blinders on here.

Regardless of what clunker you want to cash in on, the new Camaro isn't eligible for the program because it doesn't get good enough gas mileage...Maybe the V6 does, but def not the V8.

^ Yep...

2010 SS's will not qualify as the new vehicle must achieve over 22mpg on average by the government standars. However, if you're looking at getting an automatic V6, you're gold. I did a clunker deal on a Rally Yellow 2LT (auto). The guy traded in his '87 Z28 IROC and got the $3,500 + $200 scrap value and $222 in tax savings, so about $4,000 total. Here's his trade...

It just really sucks that we have to junk this thing.

That car would be real nice to have right about now. But I wouldn't have been able to pay $3500 for it. It's a real shame a car like that has to be crushed. It's a classic.
