Any L99 owners having problems with DoD?

I was looking at some problems with Active Fuel management(DoD) on the L99 and other V8 engines. I found this article.

http://townhall-talk.edmunds.com/direct/view/.f1648c7

I was wondering if any L99 owners out there have had any issues with lifters, as I was thinking about going with the A6 rather than the M6. If I were to go with an A6 I'm most likely going to buy a DiabloSport tuner with it and turn the DoD off.

Also, If i buy one it will be a 2011 model, just in case it matters.

We had several members with a lifter issue. There's a TSB out for it. But the majority of the L99s aren't having the issue.

Here's a thread about the issue.

http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showth...tapping+lifter

But I wouldn't let this stop you from getting an L99 A6.

Thanks man. I was hoping by now GM(and Mopar) would realize that the whole fuel saver stuff like DoD and MDS doesn't need to be used in Muscle Car applications. I can understand say a chrysler 300 with the HEMI or a Silverado with the 5.3 using DoD/AFM/MDS but not a Muscle Car. Leave the Fuel Saver stuff to the vehicles like mini vans or something. I believe Muscle Cars(Camaro, Mustang, and Challenger) should run on all 8 Cylinders. It's a V8 for a reason!

That's my rant anyway, and those of you who enjoy using the DoD/AFM to get a few extra MPG's then that's great. I'm not trying to say anything bad about it, but you think after all the lifter issues GM would just cut it out ya know.

Anyone else have any input, all is welcome.

I have had some lifter tap, but unable to get it rectified thru the dealer (lazy techs keep passing it off as normal)

BUT I will say that aside from this, and the DOD (which I will soon be tuning out) I love this motor. The torque and hp are unlike anything I've driven prior

Yeah, I'd be going with a diablosport. It can just turn off the DoD. A lot cheaper than a L99 to LS3 conversion.

I think GM calls is AFM, Active Fuel Management. Chrysler may use DoD.

Not a big fan, but to avoid the Guzzler Tax, it's a must.

But even not being a fan, I wouldn't give up my powertrain warranty to recalibrate the car to eliminate it.

I believe MOPAR calls it MDS - Multiple Displacement System.

No problems here.

I, for one, wanted the L99 partially because of the AFM. Doing my (very small) part for the environment....one of the tools in bringing performance cars into the 21st century IMO. I think it's great to save a little fuel when cruising on the highway, plus when you jam on it, it's still a rocket...switches over faster than I could gear down in the M6 anyway.

My lifters tapped from 300 miles on. I waited it out and got worse. I finally had the new ones installed last week and it's a world of difference. No lifter tapping at all.

Number 3 is right... no reason to blow your warranty just to turn off AFM otherwise know as DOD Displacement on Demand.

But if you don't care about warranty don't go with Diablo... get an SCT instead. Diablo doesn't have a tune for the A6 transmission.

Bottom line is you shouldn't have any problem with the lifters... and turning off DOD doesn't change the fact that the lifters are still there.

Def. getting the SCT tune then.

Doesn't the AFM/DOD cause the exhaust to sound really weird if you have an after-market exhaust?

Im trying to find a programmer for my impala LT but no luck so far.

Careful with that....... DEFINITELY don't go 2nd hand like I did. I ended up with 3 codes and still have the damned AFM. (DOD, GM stlye)

If you do buy Diablo, go NEW, and definitely update it before you plug it in. And don't expect any help from the hotline if you get in trouble.

If you're gonna do handheld, I'd recommend SCT- heard alot of good things about them.
