I wouldn't think it's a problem. I've messed with my brother's shifters on his Honda Fit, and it's the same way. There's a little play in it. No big deal.

I have found that the auto trans shift linkage can transmit some movement from the powertrain into the shifter handle. This is due to the camaro having a solid linkage rod from the trans control to the shift lever on the side of the trans. Also I have found that the trans mount is a bit squishy ( technical term) probably for less vibration entering the chassis. I wouldn't worry about it. If they used a cable it wouldn't have transmitted the movement to the shifter handle.
And yes I am a GM tech. |

I can actually see mine "wiggling" when I'm driving. Both my boyfriend and I have noticed it and felt it. Thought about taking it in, but wanted to see what you guys thought... sounds like most people are thinking it's normal?

I noticed it with mine too. I'm not gonna worry about it unless I have some reason to.

Got my car last week and I could feel trans movement through the shifter.
Almost as if there is not enough play or damping in the linkage. Weird when you rest your hand on the shifter.. Has anyone contacted their dealer?

I've also noticed my shifter shaking since the 1st day I took my silver SS off the lot.
Now I'm noticing that a rattle's developing around the bottom of the shifter area particularly when you have it in Sport mode. I'm noticing when I shift it into D it seems to go away for the most part. Anyone else starting to see this issue as they start to rack up some miles on their Camaros? I'm at about 6K. |

My Camaro SS has a "wiggling" auto shifter as well and I concluded the same as the GM tech on this board that it's due to the fact the shifter is directly connected to the tranny versus most cars are connected via a cable.
When I shift into Sport mode, I also get a rattling sound depending on road conditions. Quote:

Normal
I felt the same thing with the automatic. I beleive it's normal since the shifter is located directly over the transmission and the is surely a direct likage. I had the same with previouses Corvettes.

Mine does that too. I dropped he off at the dealership this morning and mentioned that issue. He said it's A "normal Camaro thing" and nothing to be alarmed with....they could find no malfunction with it.

Yeah, i think its normal too... I would say it's probably some sort of thing like torque steering. When my Shifter moves aggresively, I say "Calm down boy, shh shh... good boy"
