What does axle-back mean?

Does axle back basically mean replacement mufflers? Im going to add a bbk catback but they dont seem to come with mufflers, so do i need to mate the bbk catback system with another aftermarket axleback?
I figured i would just get the catback and add some magnaflow mufflers or something but then it occurred to me i may need a full axle back to go with the cat back.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Please and thank you.

In my understanding a Cat Back is the Full exhaust after the headers and cats. And come's with the Mid pipes, X pipe, and the muffler.

And the axle back is just the mufflers. I think they call it axle back because it's after the rear axle??

Hope that helps.

Cat back sounds correct to me. Axle back is the muffler and enough exhaust tube to connect a couple inches forward of the OEM mufflers where your kit tells you where to make a cut. Most axle back systems should be bolt on once you make that cut. A sawsall works great for cutting of the stock mufflers.

catback is the piping from the Cats and back, and axle back is the pipes from the rear axle and back. (In this case, pretty much just the muffler and tips) Thus the names =) Hope that helps.

CAT back exhaust includes the pipe behind the catalyst convertors and does includes the mufflers as well. Axle back you are buying just the mufflers a a small section of pipe. Hope that helps!!

in my understanding based on what you guys said.
Here's a quick summary:

Cat back = System After the cats or Behind the cats = CAT BACK?

Axle back = Mufflers/Piping after or Behind the rear axle = AXLE BACK?

that's what I got LOL

yes, just to reconfirm, catback is all the piping after the cat. This includes the mufflers and tips.

axleback just replaces the mufflers and tips.

Please..no more repititious posts. If you all red the thread, which is only a page, he got the answer and said "Thanks." Every pst after that made thread long and seemed as if people posted new information, but of course you all are free to continuing responding if you want to.

I'm looking at purchasing a axle back cat-back system. Does it give any HP gains? would it just be easier and almost identical to do a muffler delete? I just want to be sure that I'm not $300+ for something that I can get done for $100 at a local muffler shop.
